| The People of Ta'weel and Tahreef Concerning Allaah's Names Are Those Who Judge to the Taaghoot |

Ibn al-Qayyim (rahimahullaah) said in as-Sawaa`iq al-Mursalah (1/341), after speaking about the numerous false principles that the people of ta'weel have laid down:
"So these corrupt principles (qawaa`id) are the ones that have carried them to (perform) those false ta`weelaat (interpretations), because they saw that they were not agreeable to the texts of the revelation, rather there was a long, old war between them. So they made their souls to strive and exhausted their minds in order to reconciliate (between them), and they claimed that this was ihsaan (benevolence) and tawfeeq (success), and it is as if Allaah, the Sublime, revealed these verses concerning them:

But Shaitân (Satan) wishes to lead them far astray.And when it is said to them: "Come to what Allâh has sent down and to the Messenger (Muhammad (sallallaahu alayhi wasallam))," you (Muhammad (sallallaahu alayhi wasallam)) see the hypocrites turn away from you (Muhammad (sallallaahu alayhi wasallam)) with aversion. How then, when a catastrophe befalls them because of what their hands have sent forth, they come to you swearing by Allâh, "We meant no more than goodwill and conciliation!" They (hypocrites) are those of whom Allâh knows what is in their hearts; so turn aside from them (do not punish them) but admonish them, and speak to them an effective word (i.e. to believe in Allâh, worship Him, obey Him, and be afraid of Him) to reach their innerselves. |

And Shaykh Ibn `Uthaymeen (rahimahullaah) in his explanation of Kitaab ut-Tawheed (2/172), in the chapter pertaining to the verses in Surah an-Nisaa beginning from verse 60 onwards (quoted above), quotes the saying of Shaykh ul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah from al-`Aqeedat ul-Hamawiyyah, saying:
Shaykh ul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah said, "Indeed these verse apply completely (tamaaman) to the people of tahreef and ta'weel concerning the Attributes of Allaah. Because they say that they believe in Allaah and His Messenger, and when it is said to them, "Come to what Allaah has revealed and to the Messenger", they turn away and they hold back, and they say, "We will go to so and so and so and so", and when it is objected to them, they say, "We desire ihsaan (benevolence) and tawfeeq (success), and that we unite between the indication of the intellect and the indication of the text". He (rahimahullaah) mentioned it in al-Hamawiyyah.
