-Bismillahir RaHmaanir RaHeem-

I am running a Tafsir Ibn Kathir   CD ROM with Arabic Font on Windows98 and the text coming up as encoded symbols, does anyone know how I can view it correctly?

I also get an error message saying:
Error:  Arabic not supported in the code page

The system requirements say "Arabic Windows 98"  Is there any way do bypass this?

I apologize if this is a little of the topic, In sha Allaah, I will take advanages of the CDs permission to copy and print (for personal and Dawah purposes)

The problems that you're having installing the Tafseer Ibn Kathir cd may lie in the "Arabic Windows 98" requirement you mentioned. Microsoft makes an Arabic version of the Windows 98 operating system. This may be required in order for you to use the Tafsir Ibn Kathir cd(s)In sha Allah. If that is the case, then you need to obtain (purchase) the arabic98 (or later version) OS and add it to your pc (this will require a pc tech's hand to ensure a successful installation) so that you will have the ability to log into either Arabic or English Windows. After starting your pc you will be prompted to choose which OS you want. English Windows 98 has Arabic capability but it is limited and cannot read all arabic cds. I hope this helps.

Bismillahirrahmaanirraheem!

Assalaamuaalaikum wa rahmathullahi wa barakaathuhu!

If you have XP client operating system then this suffices. Else, you can get Windows Arabic version. First, copy all your information from the hard drive either onto few CD's or another hard drive if you have?

This is if you do not have partitions and neet to create one; For creating partition you need to first format the whole drive; when this is done you'll lose all your information. If you do have a partition, you can install Arabic version in a drive other than existing windows 98.
While you install, it just gives you a message,  'detected another version of widows operating system' ; go ahead and install it in a different drive Insha Allah. The only thing that must be done is rename the OS in Arabic.
You can either do it directly editing the file available in the system files folder or use attrib -help command to see the usage as to how you can see the hidden files from the dos prompt and edit it directly Insha Allah.

If you have any problems email me Insha Allah.

Wa'assalaamuaalaikum

Our da?wah and our ?aqeedah is more beloved to us than our own selves, our wealth and our offspring.  So we are not prepared to part with it for gold, nor silver.  We say this so that no one may have hope in buying out our da?wah, nor should he think that  it is possible for him to purchase it from us for deenaar or dirham. Since the politicians already know this about us, so they have despaired of buying it from us with granted positions or wealth..Shaikh, the Allamah, Muqbil ibn Hadee Al Waa'di'ee (Rahimahullah).
