بسم الله و الحمد لله و صلاته و سلامه على نبينا محمد و و على آله و صحبه و من تبعهم بإحسن إلى يوم الدين و بعد: Salaam alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh, This is an explanation of the soundness of worship by Shaykh Saalih Al-Uthaimeen, mentioning the pillars of ?Ibaadah and what makes it sound, that being Ikhlaas (sincerity) and Mutaabi?ah (the following of the Prophet ?salaallahu alaihi wa salam-), and he goes into what makes the Mutaabi?ah sound and correct. This is from his book: الإبداع في كمال الشرع و خطر الابتداع The Shaykh finishes the book with this section: ?So, it is to be known Yaa Ikhwah (brothers and sisters) that the Mutaabi?ah will not be correct unless the action (or act of worship) coincides with the Sharee?ah (Devine Legislation) in six affairs: The first: The reason behind the action So, if the worship of Allah is an?Ibaadah coupled with a reason that is not from the Sharee?ah, it is a rejected bid?ah. An example of that is, some people stay awake and celebrate the night of the 27th of Rajab claiming that it is the night the prophet- salaallahu alaihi wa salam-ascended to the heavens. [So At-Tahajjud (the night prayer) is taken as an act of worship for this specific night.] At-Tahajjud is ?Ibaadah but when it is coupled with this reason, it is a bid?ah, because this act of worship is based upon a reason that is not established from the Sharee?ah. This description (that the act of worship be in accordance with the Sharee?ah in its reason) is a very important matter that distinguishes the many innovations that people think are from the Sunnah, that are not from the Sunnah, from the acts of worship that are legislated in the Sunnah. The Second: The type of action It is essential that the act of worship be in accordance with the Sharee?ah in its type. So if man worships Allah with an act of worship that its type hasn?t been legislated, then it isn?t accepted. An example of that is, that a man sacrifices a horse, the sacrifice isn?t correct, because it opposes the Sharee?ah in its type. The Sacrifice is not to be with other than cattle like: camels, cows, sheep or goats. The Third: The amount of the action If someone wanted to increase on the Salaah that is mandatory, we would say: This is a rejected bid?ah, because it oppose the Sharee?ah in its amount, like the first point, if someone prayed Ath-Thuhr (noon prayer) five raka?at , then his salaah is not correct. The Forth: The manner or method of the action So, if someone made Wadoo? and he started with his feet, then he rubbed his head, then he washed his hands, and then his face, we would say: This Wadoo? is invalid, because it opposes the Sharee?ah in its method of action. The Fifth: The time in which the action is done So, if someone sacrifices in the first days of Dhul-Hijjah (and not on the 10th or after), then his sacrifice will not be accepted because it opposes the Sharee?ah in its specified time. And I heard that some of the people sacrifice sheep or goats in the month of Ramadhan seeking to get close to Allah by slaughtering. This action is a bid?ah in this way, because there isn?t anything that will get you close to Allah by sacrificing, except the sacrifice of Eidul-Adhaa, the sacrifice of the Hujjaj (the pilgrims making Hajj), or the sacrifice of the Aqeeqah (a sacrifice done for the newborn). As fore slaughtering in the month of Ramadhan with the belief there is reward, like the reward of slaughtering on the day of Eidul-Adhaa, then this is a bid?ah. As fore slaughtering for the reason of having meat, then this is permissible. The Sixth: The place of the action So, if someone makes ?Itikaaf (to seclude oneself to a place for the sake of worship) in other than a masjid, then verily his ?Itikaaf is not correct, and that is because the ?Itikaaf is not ?Itikaaf unless it is in the masaajid (plural for masjid). So, if a woman said, ?I want to make ?Itikaaf in the place of prayer of the house?, then her ?Itikaaf is not correct because it opposes the Sharee?ah in its place of action. Another example is, if someone wants to make Tawaaf and finds that the area where they make the Tawaaf is very crowded and what is around that is very crowded, so it resulted in him making Tawaaf from behind the masjid (outside of the masjid), thus his Twawaaf is not correct because the place of Tawaaf is the House (the Ka?bah). Allah said to Ibraahim Al-Khaleel (the friend of Allah): {{و طهر بيتي للطائفين }} (سورة الحج, الآية: 26) {{Purify my house for those that make Tawaaf}} (Hajj: 26) So,?Ibaadah (worship) will not be a righteous deed unless it fulfills two conditions: The first one being Ikhlaas (sincerity) and the second one being Mutaabi?ah (following of the Prophet), and Mutaabi?ah is not correct unless it has the six above-mentioned affairs. [That is, As-Sabab (the reason), Al-Jins (the type), Al-Qadr (the amount), Al-Kaifiyah (the method), Az-Zamaan (the time), Al-Makaan (the place)] So, verily I say to all those that are afflicted with bid?ah, those that their intentions are good and they want the good, if you wanted the good, by Allah, we don?t know a better way than the way of the Salaf (predecessors), may Allah be pleased with them. Oh brothers and sisters! Bite (Grasp) on to the Sunnah of the Messenger ?صلى الله عليه و سلم- with your molar teeth, and take the way of the Salafus-Saalih (righteous predecessors), and be upon what they were upon, and notice, does that harm you in anyway? This is from our Shaykh Al-Allamah Muhammad Saalih Al-Uthaimeen may Allah reward him and grant him a high station in Al-Jannah.Ameen
