Assalamu Alaykum Wa Ramatullaahi Wa Barakaatuh, This I am posting to the students of knowledge who have contact with the Ulamaa that they(the scholars & students who have statements from the scholars) may shed some light upon the issue of going to schools where there is free mixing between men and women. I have read a few fataawa stating the impermissibility of mixing, but I still hear things like, 'for the purpose of hijrah and aiding the muslims.' I finished highschool, university was on my mind and the reason I am not attending is for the basic fact that it is impermissible to mix. Even at my work there is mixing and I avoid it as much as possible, and insha Allah I will get something better. So, my question is this, living in the environment that we (in the west) live in from mixing at work, in stores, etc is it allowed for a brother to go to school as a means for a better future(outside the west)etc? *I know there is no difference of opinion regarding the issue of mixing.* *And I know the more it can be avoided, the better.* But Wallaahi, the way the world is, I am trying to leave this area and Allah will grant a means. BaarakAllahu Feekum, you can post or email me with reply at abuyahya_23@hotmail.com which would be good so that I may have regular contact with people of knowledge. Wa Jazaakumullaahu Khayr.

Sheikh Al-Allaamah Rabee Ibn Haadee AlMadkhalee -hafidhahulaah- was asked: Question : A brother from the Salafee's addressed a sister for marriage and she studies in a place where free mixing occurs, he advised her (against this) but she rejected his advice, (what do you advise this brother) may Allah bless you? Answer : I advise by that which the Prophet (salalaahu alaihi wa salaam) advised with, "Marry a women of Religion may your hands be covered with dust", search for a women of religion even if she is from the general folk, this is better for him than one that is learned and studies in a place where free mixing occurs, By Allah the general folk (from the religious women) are better than a lot of the learned women in our time, and By Allah Know! Know By Allah! it isnt incumbent up you that you marry a learned woman, but marry a pious God fearing woman. As for the woman that is ignorant and is upon her fitrah, you teach her and she accepts your teaching, this what I see (to be better) and Allah knows best. The Free-Mixing of Young Children in Schools and Whilst Swimming Question: British state schools are free mixed; so boys and girls study in them together; and are compelled to wash and swim in the same place. The girls can be naked at the time of washing ý or semi naked, and so some of the Scholars gave the verdict that if the girls are of a young age then there is no harm in that. What does your eminence see? And what is the Islamic method of covering for the young girl; and what is the age in which the Hijaab becomes obligatory for the girl? Answer: The free mixing of boys and girls whilst studying is Haraam (forbidden); as is their (the girls) mixing in a place of washing and swimming ý this is Haraam. Whether they be young in age or older, due to that which is found in it by way of the rousal of fitnah (trial) and the seeing of the private parts. Since it is a means towards wickedness and the undertaking of evil actions. Taken from the book: Islamic Fataawa Regarding The Muslim Child Pgs. 192-193 Free Mixing In Schools Fatwa 121: All praise be to Allaah and may blessings and peace be upon His Messenger ...To commence: I have read the article written by some journalists in the magazine "Al-Jazeerah" edition number: 3754 dated: 15/4/1403, according to the Hijri calendar, in which the free mixing of the sexes was suggested at the elementary school level. Due to the detrimental consequences of this suggestion, I see fit to warn against it, so I say: Free mixing is a medium that leads to much evil and corruption, so its practice is not permissible. The Prophet (sallAllahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said: "Order your children to perform the prayer at seven years, spank them over it at ten and separate between them in the beds" The Prophet (sallAllahu 'alayhi wa sallam) ordered that they be separated between in their beds because their proximity to each other at the age of ten years or more can be a cause of the occurrence of indecent sexual acts due to free mixing. No doubt, their gathering every day whilst they are in the elementary school level is also a cause of this, just as it is means for their free mixing in the remaining levels of education. Under all circumstances the free mixing of boys and girls at this level is evil and not permissible due to it leading to various types of immorality. The perfect Sharee'ah has obligated the forbidding of the means that lead to Shirk and disobedience. Much evidence from the Verses of the Qur'aan and Ahaadeeth have indicated towards this principle, if it were not for lengthiness I would have mentioned many of them. The great scholar Ibn al-Qayyim, may Allaah have mercy upon him mentioned ninety-nine pieces of evidence indicating towards this principle in his book (E'laam al-Muwaqqi'een). My advice to these journalists and others is not to suggest matters that open the doors of evil upon the Muslims that have been closed. We ask Allaah for guidance and success for all. It is sufficient for the sound minded to see what has occurred of immense immorality in the countries that have legalised free mixing. Sheikh Ibn Baaz. BaarakAllahu Feek wa jazaakAllahu khayr. This is extremely beneficial and may Allah make it easy for the muslims in the lands of the kuffaar to uphold their religion and not compromise. Now this is the issue of mixing, clear as day, I am then assuming it is the same for work as well. But, before I leap, can anyone post something beneficial regarding mixing in the workplace. And leaving mixed work before finding non-mixed work, is it advisable. The reason for my earlier confusion is because an elder brother in my city who graduated from the faculty of hadeeth in Madinah had told me he weighed the benefit and harm, prayed istikharah and then sent his kids to school, seeing the harm greater. BaarakAllahu Feekum Ajma'een, Wassalaamu Alaykum Wa Rahmatullaahi Wa Barakaatuh.
