Salaam

Is not taraweeh optional and therefore more rewards in praying alone, than praying with the people in the Masjid except for the obligatory salah?

Muhammad (sallallaahu alayhi wasallam) said:

"The best Salat is that of a man in his house, except for the obligatory salat." (agreed upon).

Muhammed (sallallaahu alayhi wasallam) said:

"The Salat of a man in his house is more meritorious than his prayer in my Masjid except the obligatory Salat". (Abu Dawud)

Due to my limited knowledge and understanding please can you explain this ruling, did the sahabahs, scholars (pbut) pray at home or in Masjid?

Salaam
