Assalamu alaykum wa rahmah tullahi wa barakatuhu

May allah bless the salafyeen

some of the other groups and sects frequently claim that the saved sect is the majority of the ummah.

what are the proofs for this claim, and if they are inauthentic please explain which narrators are weak. Jazak allahu khair and may allah reward you brothers

wa 'alaykumus-salaamu wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh

this seems like abul-hassan al-ma'ribee's idea of al-manhaj al-waasi'...

anyway, clearly from a number of texts in the book and the sunnah, the people of falsehood are referred to with plurals and the party of the haqq is referred to as one... indicating a minority

more clearly, as a rule in the Arabic language when you make istithnaa', an exemption from a ruling, the exempted thing is not the majority.  for example you do not say "all of the people left except for most of them" rather you would say "most of the people left"

so the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu 'alayhe wa sallam) exempted a single group from the groups of people who ascribe to Islaam who will be in the Hellfire in the hadeeth of the 73 sects.  he said, "all of them will be in the fire except one..." indicating they are a minority.

perhaps they are confused by the word "jamaa'ah" used in some of the hadeeths, and used by the imaams in their descriptions of the people of Haqq.  The jamaa'ah sometimes is translated as "main body" which can be very misleading, since the jamaa'ah are those who are gathered upon the truth, holding to Allaah's Rope, even if they are few... even if it just one man.

this false understanding that the majority are the jamaa'ah, or the saved sect, would mean that the Muslims who deviated and said the Qur'aan was created in the third century, holding the position of the jahmiyyah, they were all the saved sect and imaam ahmad and the few with him were all... what?  fitnah makers, opposers of the saved sect...?  deviants?

these are my thoughts on the topic, i hope there is somem benefit in the points i have touched on, and Allaah knows best.

Jazak Allahu Khair for your reply brother, but there is no doubt that only one of the 73 sects is saved, but they claim that this one sect is greater in number than the other 72 sects.

So what is the evidence that Jama'ah does not necessitate being large in number?

I seem to remember an athaar that states the jama'ah is the peple upon haqh even if its just one person, and this seems relatively decisive (Allahu a'lam) but I need a reference for that athaar inshAllah i.e. where can it be found?

anything good was from allah. All errors were from myself and satan

jazakum allahu khair

assalamu alaykum wa rahmah tullahi wa barakatuhu
