I try not to let a day or two pass except that I ask Shaykh Abdullah Al-Ghudayaan a question for myself or others. It has become so common that he expects it. He said,

quote:

"Laazim, a question with every salaam."

My most recent questions were the following:

  1. Is it permissable for a Muslim to go to the kuffar authorities (like in the west) to get his rights from a Muslim?
    quote:
Al-Jawaab:Yes, there is nothing preventing him as long as he has first tried to resolve things amongst the Muslims.

  2. If a man intends to divorce a woman by letter and he sends it to her wali but the wali doesn't inform the woman of the letter, is she to be considered divorced?
    quote:
Al-Jawaab: Yes, she is divorced because it was his intention to do so.

  3. If a person leaves his country with intentions to protect his Deen and he goes to the land of the Muslims then later he decides to change his intentions to  that of hijrah, must he return to his home country and then make the new intention?
    quote:
Al-Jawaab: It's a fact that he was trying to save and protect his Deen, so he has already made hijrah. There is no need for him to return to his country of origin.

May Allah preserve our shaykh, ameen.

.....in-shaa Allah more Q & A to come.

So the beat goes on! This morning I saw our shaykh and, as usual, asked a couple of questions.

  1. Is it permissable for a Muslim male to wear his hair in braids while praying?
    quote:

    There is nothing preventing this.

  2. Is it permissable for a Muslim to help a Muslim leave the land of Islam to obtain employment in the land of kufr?
    quote:

The shaykh sought refuge with Allah and then said NO!

  3. Is it permissable to make duaa' for the well being of a relative that is not Muslim?
    quote:

The shaykh said NO! You may ask Allah to give this person guidance ONLY!

I encourage brothers and sisters who have Q & A's from Shaykh Abdullah Al-Ghudayaan to add to this thread so that we can all benefit. May Allah reward you, ameen.

We ask Allah to continue to preserve our shaykh, ameen.

I recently asked the shaykh, may Allah preserve him, ameen, about the way to memorize mutoon and the Qur'aan.

He said,
quote:

"You should read the text, understand it, and then try to memorize it."

He then said,
quote:

"As for the Qur'an, you should memorize it based on the mawdoo'aat (topics or subject matter). Sooratul-Baqarah has more than 40 topics such as inheritance, marriage, divorce, menses, jihaad, fasting, and hajj etc."

The shaykh gave me a paper with the decision made by Rabitah Islami regarding marriages and divorces in non-Muslim countries. I hope to scan it and post it. It will be in Arabic, so if someone wants to take on the task of translating it that would be great.

I recently asked the shaykh the following questions:

  1. "If a person awakens in the morning after having sexual relations and feels sick, can he perform wudu or tayyamum instead of ghusl?"
    quote:

"No. People mustn't make these decisions on their own but rather they should seek (3) medical experts advice regarding the illness.  This is ibaadah and must  be careful."

  2. "Is it permissable to employ a housemaid that doesn't have an iqaamah?"
    quote:

"No. She is illegal. If you employ her, you are assisting her in her illegal act."

  3. "If a Muslim man had a girlfriend (sadiqah)) and then she became Muslim can he marry her?"
    quote:

"He said,"Sadiqah, hiya aduwah - Girlfriend, she's an enemy! If she has accepted Islam then her acceptance is an expiation for her. As for him, he needs to make tawbah. There is nothing preventing them from getting married."

May Allah allow us to continue to benefit from this treasure from amongst the treasures of this dunyaa, ameen.

Beneficial, short questions and answers, ما شاء الله. May Allaah reward the Shaykh al-Ghudyaan for answering and the brother for asking and sharing and  may He preserve them both.

ya akhee, baarakAllaahu feek. A suggestion however. How are we to understand the following narration in light of our Shaykh al-Ghudayaan hafidhahullaah answer?

In the hadeeth of Ibn 'Abbaas in Saheeh Muslim, that he saw Abdullaah ibn Al-Haarith praying with his hair braided back, and Ibn Abbaas unbraided Abdullaah ibn Al-Haarith's hair while he was praying.  So Ibn Al-Haarith asks him after the prayer, "What is with you and my head?"  Ibn 'Abbaas replied, "Verily I heard the Messenger of Allaah sallallaahu 'alayhe wa sallam say: Indeed the example of the one who prays like this is like the example of the one who prays with his hands bound."  [Saheeh Muslim, see The Prophet's Prayer Described p.143]

Al-Albaanee gives a nice faa'idah, he says, "And the meaning of the hadeeth is that if his hair is unplatted or untied and it falls upon the earth when he prostrates, he is given the reward for each hair that touches the ground.  So if it is braided back, it becomes as if it does not prostrate.  And this parable of it being like hands bound back, is because they (the hands) would not touch the ground during prostration.  So I say it appears that this ruling is specific to the men, not the women, as was quoted by Ash-Showkaanee from Ibn Al-'Arabee." [The Prophet's Prayer p.143 arabic edition]

I think the Shaykh meant that the rulling for braiding during salaah is that it's not haraam.
