1. Al Waajib
Linguistically: Mandatory, Obligatory
Technically: That which The Legislator has ordered upon the way of obligation.
Example: The five daily prayers
Its Ruling: The one who does it in obedience (and conforming to the command of Allah) is rewarded and the one who abandons it deserves punishment.
Its also called: Fardan, Fareedatun, Hatman, Laaziman
2. Al - Mandoob
Linguistically: Requested
Technically: That which The Legislator has ordered but not by way of obligation.
Example: The Rawaatib (ie sunnah prayers)
Its Ruling: The one who does it in obedience is rewarded and the one who leaves it is not punished.
Also called: Sunnah, Masnoonan, Mustahiban, Nafilaa
3. Al - Muharaam
Linguistically: Forbidden
Technically: That which The Legislator has forbidden upon the way of obligating its abandonment.
Example: Disobeying the Parents
Its Ruling: The one who leaves it in obedience is rewarded whilst the doer of it is deserving of punishment
Also Called: Mahthooran, mamnoo?an
4. Al ? Makrooh
Linguistically: Detested
Technically: That which The Legislator has forbidden but not by way of obligating its abandonment.
Example: Taking and giving with the left hand
Its Ruling: The one who abandons it in obedience is rewarded while the one who does it is not punished.
5. Al - Mubaah
Linguistically: That which has had permission declared with respect to it.
Technically: That which does not have a an order or prohibition connected to it in itself (ie with respect to its essence)
Example: Eating in the nights of Ramaadhaan
Its Ruling: As long as it can be described as Mubah then it carries with it no reward and no punishment.
(Narrated From Awn Ibn Abdullah who said: "I said to Umar ibn Abdul Azee it is stated:
"If you are able be a scholar and if you cannot be a scholar then be a student of knowledge and if you cannot be a student then love the students, and if you cannot love them then do not hate them?
So Umar said " Subhanallah Indeed Allah The Mighty and Majestic has made a way out for him (ie: for the one who says it)
