As-Salaamu alaykum wa rahmatullaahu wa baarakaatuh Taking Knowledge from Innovators Question: A question from a lecture during the explanation of usool-Sunnah of Imaam Ahmed by Shaykh Rabee': The narration of ibn Sireen and Ayoob as-Sagtiyaani, may Allaah have mercy on them both, that talk about staying away from the people of the bid'ah (innovations) and not listening to them; not even their recitation of the Quran. How should this be applied with the tapes of the people of bid'ah and the hizbees. Do we not listen to them? Answer: This warning did not just come from ibn Sireen and Ayoob only. This came from Allaah, his Messenger, the Sahaabah, and those that follow the Imaams of Islaam. The weak ones should not expose themselves to trials and he should distance himself from the people of bid'ah. Shaykh Rabee bin Haadee Sharh Usoolus-Sunnah Translated by Muhammad Elmi http://www.fatwaislam.com/fis/index.cfm?scn=fd&ID=1377

As-Salaamu alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh The great Imaam of Ahlus-Sunnah, Sufyaan al-Thawree [d.167H] said: "Whoever sits with a person of innovation (bid'ah) cannot escape one of three [3] things: 1. He is a trial and tribulation for others, 2. Something may fall into his heart that remains with him and causes him to enter the Hellfire or he will say, 3. 'By Allaah,I do not care about what they say and I have full confidence in myself.' Whoever feels that they are not in need of Allaah to safeguard his religion even for the blinking of an eye then He will take it from him." As-Salaamu alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh Is it permissible to work for the administration of a masjid run by the people of innovation? QUESTION Is it permissible for a Salafee to work as a groundskeeper for a masjid run by the people of innovation, specifically the masjids of the Qutbees and Suroorees? Can he also work in their administration? ANSWER by Shaykh Rabee' ibn Haadee Al-Madkhalee, well-known scholar and retired professor from the Islaamic University of Al-Madeenah If he does not have access to a Salafee masjid where he can pray with the Salafees, then he may pray with them. But if Allaah favors him by having a Salafee masjid nearby, a masjid whose imaam is a Salafee, then he must try his very best to offer his prayers there and stay away from the masjids of the people of innovation in general. Regarding working for them in their administration, then their administration is usually harmful to the Muslims and to Islaam itself sadly enough. So I do not see it as being permissible to work with them in administrative tasks, as cooperation with them is usually considered cooperation upon sin and transgression, especially since they focus their efforts against the Salafees more than anyone else. [ The shaykh was then asked, "And what about other than administrative work, like groundskeeping for example? ] If he is free to choose, then I don't see that as being permissible. They would not offer work to a Salafee anyway. Reference: http://www.bakkah.net/interactive/q&a/aarm002.htm
