Taken from ibn Abdul Al-Birr. A man used to ask questions to Abu Ad-Darda, so he said to him, "Everything that you are asking about, do you implement it?" The man replied; No. So he said to him, "So what will you do with the additional arguement that ALLAH has against you!"

It is related from Abi Abdillah Ar-Rowthabaari, that he said, "Whoever goes out seeking knowledge just for the sake of knowledge, will not benefit from that knowledge. And whoever goes out seeking knowledge, wanting action from that knowledge then he will benefit from even a small portion of knowledge.

Al-Awzaa'ee said , "When Innovations emerge and the People of Knowledge do not show rejection against them, they become the Sunnah". Tahdheeb Sharul Ashaabul-hadeeth of al-Khateeb al-Bagdaadee (p.46) May Allah bestow his mercy upon the 'Destroyer of Innovations'al-muhaddith Muqbil Ibn Haadee al-Wadaa'ee and may He azza wa jala preserve our shaykh, our father, Rabee'ibn Haadee alMadkhalee, 'Imaam Jarh wa-tadeel'.

From Yusuf ibn al Hunain "With good manners you understand the knowledge and with knowledge your actions are corrected. With the actions wisdom is obtained and with wisdom you understand zuhud (renunciation) and granted the benefit of it. With zuhud comes abandoning the world and with abandoning the world comes longing for the Hereafter. With longing for the Hereafter, the Pleasure of Allah Azzawajal is obtained."
---------------- Imaam al-Hasan al-Basree said, when he came across a group of people disputing: ?These ones have become tired of worship, speaking has become easy for them, and their piety has diminished, and that is why they talk.?

Alhamddulillaahi rabbil'aalameen, was, salaatu was, salaamu'alaa rasoolillaah To proceed:Imam Muslim related[saheeh Muslim bi-Sharh an-Nawawee(18/10)]Muslim(Eng.Trans,vol 4,No.7072) and al-Baghawee[Sharh as-sunnah(15/21-22)],that Aamir Ibn Abee Waqqaas said,"Sa'd ibn Abee Waqqaas radiallaahu'anhu used to rear some camels and sheep.Once,Umar(his son)came to him. When Sa'd saw him,he said,"I seek refuge in Allaah from the evil of this rider[who approaches me]." Once he eventually got to him,he said,'O my father! Are you satisfied in becoming a bedouin amongst your camels and sheep, while the people in the city are fighting and struggling against the ruler?!' So he struck his chest with his hand and said,'Be quiet my son! Indeed I heard Allaah's Messenger salallaahu alayhi wa sallam say,"Indeed Allaah loves the unknown, pure, fearing slave." From what Sufyaan ath-Thawree wrote to 'Abbaad ibn Abbaad al-Khawwaas al-Arsoofee(He was from the excellent people of Shaam),..."Hence you must take to the original affair and hold tight to it,and you should take to being unknown, for indeed this is the age to remain unknown."

(Abu Ismaa'eel) Muhammad bin Ismaa'eel at-Tirmidhee said: "I and Ahmad bin al-Hasan at-Tirmidhee were with the Imaam of the Deen, Abu Abdullaah Ahmad bin Hanbal and Ahmad bin al-Hasan said to him: 'O Abu Abdullaah, they mentioned the Ashaabul-Hadeeth (the People of Hadeeth) to Ibn Abee Qutaylah of Makkah and he said: 'The Ashaabul-Hadeeth are an evil people.' So Imaam Ahmad stood and while shaking off the dust from his garment he said: 'Zindeeq (heretic), zindeeq, zindeeq', (and he continued like this) until he entered his house."

Abu Haatim ar-Raazee said, "Spreading of knowledge is its life, and conveying from Allaah's Messenger (sallallaahu alaihi wasallam) is mercy which every believer clings on to, and it is a hujjah (proof) against every one who passes it by and every deviant".

Taken from the advice of 'Abbaad ibn 'Abbaad al-Khawwaas to Ahlus Sunnah wal-Jamaah (from al-kitaab al-jameel 'Min Wasaayaa as-Salaf' from SalafiPublications) " And do not content yourselves concerning the Sunnah with striving for speech and not acting upon it. For indeed striving upon the Sunnah without acting upon it is a lie as well as neglecting knowledge".

Hastening to do good deeds while reflecting on the Akheerah As-Salaamu Alaykum wa Rahmatullaahi wa Barakaatuhu Ikhwaan, in keeping with the spirit of the beautiful advice of Akhunaa Abu Tasneem Dawood Adeeb [haafidhahullaah] insha Allaah I would like to narrate an authentic athaar on the authority of Alee Ibn Abee Taalib [radhia Allaahu Anhu] collected by Muhammad Ibn Ismaa'eel Al-Bukhaaree [rahimahullaah] where he narrates that Alee Ibn Abee Taalib said: "Irtahlatid-dunyaa mudbiratin wal-irtahlatil akheerah muqbilatin, wa likulli waahidatin minhumaa banoon, fakunu min abnaa'il akheera wa laa takunu min abnaa'il dunyaa, fa innal yauma amal wa laa hisaab wa ghaddan hisaab bilaa amal" Alee Ibn Abee Taalib said," The dunyaa is retreating and the akheerah is swiftly approaching and both of them have child, be [oh muslims] children of the akheerah and do not be children of this dunyaa, for today there is action without account and tomorrow there is account without action."
Sufyaan Ibn Uyainah used to say: Indeed the Deen is only in the Aathaar and not in opinions the Deen is in the Aathaar not in opinions...

Taken from his beneficial book Al-Fawaa'id of Ibn Qayyim He (rahimahullaah) said: "The Prophet (sallaahu alaihi wa sallaam) combined fear of Allaah and good character because fear of Allaah rectifies between the servant and his Lord and good character rectifies between the servant and His creation. So fear of Allaah brings about love of Allaah for him and good character calls the people to love him"

"I have four kinds of days: (1) A day when I go out and meet someone more knowledgeable than me, so I learn from him, and that is the day of my benefit and profit. (2) A day when I go out and meet someone less knowledgeable than me, so I teach him, and that the day of my reward. (3) A day when I go out and meet someone like me and I study and review with him, and that is the day of my lesson. (4) A day when I go out and meet someone below my level but he sees himself as being above my level, so I don't talk to him, and I make that the day for my rest." - Ibraaheem An-Nakha'ee (Jaami'u Bayaan Al-'Ilm no. 878)

Al-Barbahaaree, said: "Know that leaving the correct path occurs in two ways. Firstly : that a man strays from the correct path intending nothing but good, so his error is not to be followed since it leads to destruction. Secondly: a man who deliberately opposes the truth and acts contrary to the Pious ones who came before him, he is astray, leading others astray, a rebellious devil within the Ummah. It is a duty upon those who know of him to warn the people against him and to explain his condition to them so that no one falls into his innovation and is destroyed."

Mu'aadh ibn Jabal, (radi' Allaahu 'anhu) said: "Knowledge is a comforting friend in times of loneliness, it is the best companion during travels, and it is the inner friend who speaks to you in your privacy. Knowledge is the discerning proof of what is right and what is wrong, and it is the positive force that will help you surmount the trials of comfort, as well as those of hardships. Knowledge is your most powerful sword against your enemy, and finally, it is your most dignifying raiment in the company of your close companions."

"Knowledge will not be learnt by one who is too shy, nor one who is too proud." Reported by ad-Daarimee (1/138), al-Bayhaqee in his Madkhal ilas-Sunan (no. 410) and al-Khateeb al-Baghdaadee in Al-Faqeeh wal-Mutafaqqih, (2/144)

A poet once said; Desires that were, at the age of youthfulness, sweet to those who wished them, became a suffering at Al-Masheeb*(an old age). *Al-Masheeb: The period of whiteness of the hair, or hoariness.

Al-Khateeb al-Baghdaadee - rahimahullaah - said: "It has been said: Knowledge is the father and actions are the offspring. Indeed knowledge comes with actions; and riwaayah (narrating) comes from diraayah (investigating)."
