We have one in our town who states that Imaam Ibn Katheer says that the Face of Allaah azza wa jall means "reward" and then claims this is the creed of Imaam ibn Katheer. He claims that this is in regards to the the ayat containing "yureedoona wajh-Allaah".
Although we have advised him that this is not the case we wish that one of the students of knowledge could assist us in this issue so that we may know if it is permissable to continue praying behind this man now or after he possibly denies the haqq. And we would also appreciate some names of those scholars of our times who specialize in this science.
Muhammad al-Ameen ash-Shanqeetee (d. 1393), author of Adwaa' ul-Bayaan, was the mufassir of this era without question.
Also, the late Muhammad Bin Saalih al-'Uthaymeen (d. 1421) was known for tafseer - recordings of most of his tafseer of the Qur'aan are available on his website for FREE. Some of this tafseer has been transcribed and published in book form as well, like Juz' 'Amma and Soorat ul-Baqarah. His teacher 'Abdur-Rahmaan Bin Naasir as-Sa'dee (d. 1376) wrote a voluminous tafseer which was later abridged into the famous Tayseer ul-Kareem ur-Rahmaan.
Finally, do not be fooled by Abu Bakr al-Jazaa'iree and others who are proclaimed as mufassireen nowadays. The three aformentioned 'Ulamaa' are more than sufficient for the Salafee who fears for his 'aqeedah and manhaj.
