The following is a summary translation taken from Sahab.net

http://sahab.net/forums/showthread.php?t=347901

The Noble Scholar Sheik Muhammad Salih bin Uthamin may ALLAH have mercy upon him said, in his treatise ?Holding onto the Prophetic sunna?

And in accordance with this I say, those employees who stay out absent from work either by days or hours; and you will find those who are late daily. And what is worse than this is that he will register his attendance as the official time when perhaps he was late an hour or more and he will leave before its time. And this in haram upon him and this is a betrayal of trust.

If we calculate that his work week is thirty-five hours, and we subtract from that, an hour each day, meaning an hour from his attendance, then we shall subtract five hours a week from his thirty-five hours; then what is there that makes it permissible for him to take a complete salary? What is there that makes this permissible? Would not this man, if his salary was short (deficient) one dirham (dollar) out of one hundred dirham, would he not demand the one dirham? Then how can he not demand from himself that he fulfill the duration of his work obligation?!

And so it is known: If a person makes it his habit to be prompt and to be present at work at the proper time and to leave work at the proper time then this will become easy for him. And if he makes it his habit to be lazy then it will be hard for him to fulfill his obligations.

And it has been authentically narrated from the Messenger of ALLAH, peace and blessings are upon him and his family, that he said, ?The strong believer is better and more beloved to ALLAH than the weak believer, and there is good in both of them; strive to do that which will benefit you and seek the help of ALLAH and do not feel helpless, and if something befalls you don?t say, if I had done such and such it would have been like this or that, because {if} opens up the work of the devil?. (Narrated by Muslim)

And in the Noble Quran: ?Verily, the best of men for you to hire is the strong, the trustworthy." (Chapter 28 verse 26)

So where is the trust from a man who sleeps on his bed until an hour or two from his work time passes by and he is not at work? So it is upon the people to take themselves to account and to fear their Lord.
