As salaamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuhu,
The issue of using a pinata (paper mache' object filled with candy that the children hit blindfolded to empty the candy inside) as a game for the children has come up.
-Some common folk (in regards to knowledge) people say that we should not use it because it is something that mexicans use in celebrations and their religous celebrations.
- Other common folk (in regards to knowledge) want further clarification. These last people learned a point of benefit from sheikh uthaymeens (may Allah be pleased with him, ameen) fatawa regarding a woman wearing a white wedding dress that is known to be a practice of the kuffar. That fatawa is below:
Shaykh Ibn ?Uthaymeen was asked:
What is the ruling on a woman wearing white for her wedding as it is known that this is an imitation of the kuffaar?
He replied:
It is permissible for a woman to wear white so long as it is not in the same form as men?s clothing. With regard to it being an imitation of the kuffaar, that is no longer the case, because now all Muslim women wear such clothes when they are getting married. The ruling depends on whether the reason for it is present or not. If it is no longer an imitation of the kuffaar and this has now become something that is common to both Muslims and kaafirs, then the ruling no longer applies, unless something is haraam in and of itself and not because it is an imitation of others. Such things are haraam in all cases.
So the last person took what He (may Allah be pleased with him, ameen) said:"The ruling depends on whether the reason for it is present or not. If it is no longer an imitation of the kuffaar and this has now become something that is common to both Muslims and kaafirs, then the ruling no longer applies, unless something is haraam in and of itself and not because it is an imitation of others. Such things are haraam in all cases."
They do not have an opinion regarding its permissibility but they think the question of the pinata should be clarified by the Shayukh (may ALlah be pleased with them, ameen)as they say that they know of both muslims and non muslims who use the pinata as an extra curriculur activity for the children.
IS using a pinata doing extra curriculur activities with the children an imitaiton of the kufaar?

Jazaakum Allahu Khayrin for anyone attempting to answer the question posted. However, I need to make this request urgent. Can someone please post any information regarding the pinata? The answer will affect activities at an Islamic School that are soon to take place. The teachers are in disagreement about it and can not find any precious material regarding this issue.
