As Salaamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh, I'm wondering if anyone has any articles, or maybe books on Zuhd [in English], and how the Salaf understood and applied it in their lives, barakallaahu feekum. wassalaamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh akhook, Abu Sufyaan Hamzah al Balqaanee

The types of zuhd Al-Imaam Ahmad bin Hanbal said: Az-Zuhd is of three types: The first: abandoning that which is haraam (forbidden) ? and it is the zuhd of the general folk. The second: abandoning the excesses of that which is halaal (lawful) ? and it is the zuhd of the people of distinction. The third: abandoning that which busies one from Allaah ? and it is the zuhd of the acquainted ones.

Bismillaahirrahmaanirraheem The Dispraise of al-Hawaa (Desire) - Appended with 'Warning the Muslims Against Deviant Creeds and Methodologies By Imaam Ibnul-Qayyim al-Jawziyyah, Prepared by Dr. Saalih as-Saalih Published: (01-Jan-99) @ http://www.salafibookstore.com/ and Troid

A description and clarification about matters of the heart through which many people today are mislead. Imaam Ibnul-Qayyim expounds upon the true understanding of Zuhd as held by the Salaf, and the innovated understanding that many Soofees stick to. The compiler of the book, Dr. Saleh as-Saleh also mentions the grave mistakes that occur in, "The Reliance of the Traveller," of Nuh Ha Mim Keller. Overall, Imaam Ibnul-Qayyim, may Allaah have mercy upon him and grant him Firdous, mentions many beneficial words on the path to true rectification of the heart, and also provides an excellent refutation of many of the innovated beliefs held onto by the Soofees.

Bismillahirrahmaanirraheem Explanatory Notes on Imaam an-Nawawee's Forty Ahaadeeth http://www.tarbiyyahbookstore.com/store/product.php?productid=10&cat=10&page=1
![](image.gif) | quote: |
Author: Muhammad Ibn Saaleh al-'Uthaymeen Pages: 235 Pgs including glossary & preview of next publication. Subsequently, you have from the scholars those who have compiled forty Hadeeth concerning the fundamentals of the religion; others concerning the subsidiary branches, others concerning Jihaad, others concerning Zuhd, others concerning manners, and others concerning admonishments. All of them are righteous intentions and may Allaah be pleased with those who had these righteous intentions. I deemed it appropriate to compile forty (Hadeeth) more important than all of these entirely, and it is forty hadeeth that encompasses all of that. Every hadeeth has in it a grand principle from the principles of the religion.
