Assalaamu Alaykum.. I have two questions which I would be greatful if the brothers or the sisters could answer with relevant proofs inshaAllaah!
The Pataan people where I live have a committee which, in order to join requires a membership, and a yearly fee from then on. The main purpose for this is when the person who is registered dies (this could be anyone), the members of the committee (numbering hundreds, even thousands) pay for the expenses of the deceased [by 'chipping' in] (washing, preparing the body, transporting it to Pakistan (if requested by the family) and any other fees). What I wish to know is it ok for me to join such a committee? Secondly, the same committee mentioned above has a building, where if a member of it dies, they gather for the three days after the death from, 10 am until 6 pm and do ?dua? for him. This basically consists of sitting in a room talking about worldly affairs, and each time someone new comes in, they raise their hands to make ?dua? for the person, once the ?dua? is made, they continue discussing the dunyah, or whatever the topic was. Is attending this allowed for me if the deceased is a close relative? |

AssalamuAlaikum Wa Rahmatullah, Just to add what akh Tariq has mentioned, then this "death commitee" is not only a local issue but rather a major network extended throughout the UK. The "death commitee" headquarters is based in Birmingham and basically anyone in the UK who is from the Attock region of Pakistan is eligible to register. So just to re-iterate what akh Tariq has already mentioned, it would be greatly appreciated if this question is answered as it affects so many of us living in the UK, some of who have been on this commitee for decades.
