As-Salaamu'Alaikum salafiyoon,

Does anyone have an example from our salafu'salih of one naming himself with a pluralized kunya (surname). Like Abu'Athari'atayn, Abu'Salafi'atayn, or Abu' Muslimoon, just for examples. If so, please post examples, if not please post apposing examples barak'Allah.

Baarak-Allaahu Feekum - wa sal-Allaahu wa-sallam 'alaa Nabiyyinaa Muhammad,
was-Salaam 'alaykum wa-Rahmatullaahe wa-Barakaatuh.

Wa 'alaykumus-salaamu wa rahmatullaah,

Akhaanaa Abaa Salafiyyatayn:

I found two taabi'ees (taabi'ayn) for you, both of them named Muhammad (Muhammadayn), both of their fathers were named 'Abdur-Rahmaan ('Abday ar-Rahmaan):

Aboo ar-Rijaal (Father of the men) Muhammad ibn 'Abdir-Rahmaan ibn Haarithah al-Ansaaree

Imaam al-Bukhaaree said in his Saheeh (#7375):

Ahmad ibn Saalih narrated to us, that Ibn Wahb narrated to him, that 'Amr narrated on the authority of Ibn Abee Hilaal, that Aboo ar-Rijaal Muhammad ibn 'Abdir-Rahmaan narrated that his mother 'Amrah bint 'Abdir-Rahmaan was in the room of 'Aa'ishah, the wife of the Prophet (sallallaahu 'alayhe wa sallam), and narrated on the authority of 'Aa'ishah that the Prophet (sallallaahu 'alayhe wa sallam) sent a man to be in charge of an expedition, and he used to recite for them in their prayers and always finish with "Qul huwa Allaahu ahad" (Soorah al-Ikhlaas).  So when they returned they mentioned that to the Prophet (sallallaahu 'alayhe wa sallam) who said, "Ask him why he is doing that?"  So they asked him and he said, "Because it is a description of ar-Rahmaan, and I love to recite it."  So the Prophet (sallallaahu 'alayhe wa sallam) said, "Inform him that Allaah loves him."

'Alee ibn Muhammad narrated to us that 'Ubaydillaah ibn Moosaa narrated on the authority of 'Uthmaan ibn al-Aswad, on the authority of Muhammad ibn 'Abdir-Rahmaan ibn Abee Bakr, who said: I was sitting with Ibn 'Abbaas when a man came to him.  He (Ibn 'Abbas) said, "Where have you come from?"  He said, "From (the well of) ZamZam."  He said, "Did you drink from it as is befitting?"  He said, "How is that?"  He said, "When you drink it, face the qiblah, mention Allaah, seperate your drinks three times by breathing, and drink an excessive amount of it (fill yourself with it).  When you finish, then praise Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic, for verily the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu 'alayhe wa sallam) said: Verily the sign that is between us and the hypocrites is that they do not drink an excessive amount of Zamzam (i.e. they do not fill themselves)."

Al-Albaanee called it dha'eef, saying: "The hadeeth revolves around the narration of Muhammad ibn 'Abdir-Rahmaan ibn Abee Bakr on the authority of Ibn 'Abbaas.  So then who is this Ibn Abee Bakr and what is his condition?  He is: Muhammad ibn 'Abdir-Rahmaan ibn Abee Bakr al-Qurashee al-Jumhee, Aboo ath-Thawrayn al-Makkee .  'Amr ibn Deenaar narrated from him as well, and Ibn Hibbaan included him in ath-Thiqaat (1/208), and no one else called him reliable.  Thus, al-Haafith in at-Taqreeb said: "Acceptable."  That means: "If there are other witnesses to his hadeeth."  I say: And there exists a witness, however its chain is WAAHIN (erroneous) up to the one who narrates as a witness for him..." [Irwaa' al-Ghaleel, 4/327]

And Allaah knows best.
