As-salaamu Alaikum, Ya Abul Abbas, indeed the way it is worded below is the way I ran across it. I did not encounter the words in between the brackets. Jazakallahu khair for researching this hadeeth. May Allah bless all the Salafiyoon, including the Administrations of boards such as Salafitalk.net, amin. Insha'allah it gives us another resource to acquire knowledge about out the Dawa in its PRISTINE form. "Nothing repels the Qadhaa' except du'aa', and nothing increases one's lifespan except righteousness." As-salaamu Alaikum Umm Layla

I'm sorry - other narrations (like Aboo Daawood's) have the wording switched around as found in the title of this thread. The questioner asked about it as found in the title of the thread.

Imaam Ibn Maajah said: 'Alee ibn Muhammad narrated to us that Wakee' related on the authority of Sufyaan, on the authority of 'Abdillaah ibn 'Eesaa, on the authority of 'Abdillaah ibn Abil-Ja'd, on the authority of Thawbaan who said that the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu 'alayhe wa sallam) said, "Nothing increases one's lifespan except righteousness, and nothing repels Qadr except du'aa' [and verily a man is prevented from provisions by wrongdoing]." The first section of the hadeeth is hasan due to support from other chains of narration. See Saheeh Sunan Ibn Maajah (89) and Silsilatul-Ahaadeethis-Saheehah (154). The last part of the hadeeth which is between brackets is not found in the other narrations, so it can not be raised above the level of dha'eef. See Dha'eef Sunan Ibn Maajah (89). Someone asked about this hadeeth recently.
