شكوت إلي وكيع سوء حفظي فأرشدني إلي ترك المعاصي و أخبرني بأنَ العلم نور و نور الله لا يهدى لعاصي
Imaam Ash-Shaafiee? (may Allah have mercy on him) said:
?I complained to Wakee? (about) my bad memory, so he directed me to the abandonment of sins and he informed me that knowledge is light, and the light of Allah is not shown to a sinner?.
As-Salaamu Alaykum wa Rahmatullaahi wa Barakaatuhu !
A quick question concerning this bayt, should the last bayt read?:
"و نور الله لا يعطي لعلصي"
"And the Nur of Allaah is not given to the one given to sin"

شهدت بأن وعد الله حق و أن النار مثوى الكافرين و ان الأرش فوق الماء طاف و فوق العرش رب العالمين I bear witness that the promise of Allaah is true and that the abode of the kuffar is the hellfire and that the Arsh is above the water suspended and above the
Wa alaikum as sallam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatahu
From the book Deewaan Ash-Shaafiee (p71), I read it as يهدى (mabnee'alal majhool -in the passive voice) as opposed to يعطى . Its possible that there are other abyaat with the wording you mentioned. If you know of them, then put please put them up inshallah.
