Are there even any existing, published explanations for al-Mawqidhah? Also, akhee Yoosuf, who did those cassettes that you have?

About memorization, then the mandhoomat exist for this reason, i.e. they are far easier to memorize than regular texts like this. The most well-known mandhoomaat for the intermediate/advanced level are the alfiyaat (i.e. ~1000 verses) of al-Haafidh Zayn ud-Deen al-'Iraaqee (d. 806) and as-Suyootee (d. 911).

There is a beautiful post on sahab comparing/contrasting these two, I will either translate it or summarize it here, in shaa' Allaah.

What follows is a summary of points on the two alifiyyaat taken from a thread on sahab:

(1) Shaykh Naasir is reported to have said that the alfiyyah of as-Suyootee is better than the alfiyyah of al-?Iraaqee, because as-Suyootee included many issues in mustalah and in jarh wa ta?deel that al-?Iraaqee did not. Also, the alfiyyah of as-Suyootee is more precise in terms of presenting the predominant and most superior opinions regarding the differing definitions of hadeeth terminology.

(2) ash-Shaykh Muhammad Aadam al-Ithiyoobee (the Ethiopian) explained alfiyyat as-Suyootee and it is apparently published.

(3) as-Suyootee benefited greatly from the works of Ibn Hajar (al-?Iraaqee is actually one Ibn Hajar?s Shuyookh) and his critiques of Ibn us-Salaah and al-?Iraaqee, thus, it is a more precise work.

(4) as-Suyootee?s is easier for memorization as opposed to ?Iraaqee?s, due to simpler language and better organization.

(5) ash-Shaykh ?Abdul-Muhsin al-?Abbaad explained as-Suyootee?s alfiyyah in 54 tapes.

(6) al-?Iraaqee?s is actually an abridgement and nadhm of Ibn us-Salaah, as he states himself in his work: ?I have summarized Ibn us-Salaah entirely *** And I went beyond it in knowledge, you will see that in its place?

(7) as-Suyootee said in his work: ?It is superior to the alfiyyah of al-?Iraaqee *** In completeness, summarization, and harmony? Thus, it is more complete in terms of content, is less wordy, and has more harmonious and better-fitting verses.

(8) as-Suyootee was a specialist in nadhm ? he took only five days to complete this 1000 verse nadhm! He said: ?I made this nadhm in five days *** By the power of the Dominator, the All-Knowing?

(9) ADDITION: One brother reports that Shaykh Bin Baaz used to memorize alfiyyat ul-'Iraaqee and cite its verses. He also used to praise alfiyyat us-Suyootee.

The most well-known sharh of ?Iraaqee?s work is that of as-Sakhaawee (d. 902), called ?Fath ul-Mugheeth.? Also, ash-Shaykh Ahmad Shaakir did comments on both alfiyyaat and they are published.

What text is to be studied BEFORE al-Mooqidhah given that the latter is regarded as intermediate level and as brother Moosa, jazaahullaahu khayran,  mentioned in his translation of a lesson earlier this summer by Shaykh 'Ubayd, hafidhahullaah, the beginner is advised not to begin with it?

In the following recording, Shaykh 'Ubayd al-Jaabiree recommends Nukhbat ul-Fikr of Ibn Hajar for beginners. Ibn 'Uthaymeen explained this in 18 tapes and it is available on his website.

I'm in the same situation as you. The problem is, I can't search sahab for the name because only words of 4 or more letters can be searched, i.e. the search term آدم is rejected by the server. I therefore second the brother's request for a short biography or at least a few sentences on this man.

Jazaakum Allaahu Khayran.

About 'Uloom ul-Hadeeth and Shaykh Naasir...

The Shaykh did footnotes (hawaashee) on Ahmad Shaakir's sharh of al-Baa'ith ul-Hatheeth of Ibn Katheer, which is an abridgement of Ibn us-Salaah. It has been published in two volumes by al-Maktab al-Islaamee. Although I don't have a copy, I have seen and looked through it, it costed about 80 Egyptian Pounds (~$14).

That is perhaps the closest you will get to the Shaykh's opinions in Usool. And Allaah 'Azz wa Jal knows best.
