The Deviance of people of Soofiyah who worship - not seeking Allaah's face but rather - for Ghaib to be revealed to them

Reading the works of Shaikh 'Abdur-Rahman al-Mu'alimi, discussing the importance of intention and how one's niyyah relates to eeman, and reasons why certain people do acts of worship for other than Allaah, student of knowledge 'Umar Quinn said:

Or like those who do good deeds to be from ahl-al-kashf (the people of kashf). Like the person who fasts and prays so he could be of the people of kashf. Like the people of Soofiyah who do acts of 'ibaadah, saying "We don't do what we do hoping for the reward from Allaah, or fearing His punishment. We do what we do because we love Allaah."

As the Salaf used to say,
quote:
"Whoever worships Allaah upon love alone, he is a Zindeeq (a heretic)."

These people (these Soofis) worship Allaah, not hoping for a reward or fearing Allaah's punishment, but hoping for al-Kashf - that the Unseen be uncovered for them. [Refuge in Allaah is sought from this!]

And this is what they believe, and this is because the shayaatin (devils) come to them and misguide them. This is how the people of Soofiyah are; they believe that if they fast enough, pray enough, leave off things from the dunya - not doing it for Allaah or for Paradise or fear of the hellfire but to reach this level [of Kashf], to be a Wali, as they say...

And Ibn Taymiyyah (rahimahullaah) wrote about this in Al-Furqan bayna awliyya` Ar-Rahman wa awliyya` ash-Shaytan ("The Criterion between the Allies of Allaah and the Allies of Shaytan").

[And then 'Umar Quinn interjected by inviting one of the brothers to give a few examples of how people ignorantly attributed knowledge of the Unseen to Shaikh Al-Albani (rahimahullaah). Shaikh Al-Albani refuted this matter by beautifully explaining how he knew two specific matters because he simply gathered facts. And one of the brothers mentioned that we should not confuse "intuition" for kashf.]

'Umar Quinn continued:

Perhaps others will be deceived by their 'ibaadah, the way they [the Soofis] worship, their fasting, and their praying, etc... The [intention of the one who does this] isn't sincere, [as he] was not doing this to get close to Allaah. He was doing this so that the ghaib (Unseen) would be made clear to him, uncovered for him so that he may enjoy having this thing, and his status could be raised amongst the people.

And this is what is known about the Soofiyah who work with the shayaatin, and information would come to them from the shayaatin. Maybe the shayaatin would even bring them things from a far place as occurred with Hallaj to the point that some of the Soofis were given things that were considered "miracles," supernatural. And people would think they were the allies of Allaah, sort of like the belief of the Catholics who believed that in order to be a "Saint," you had to have miracles. So they would say [about] these people with supernatural acts that they were allies of Allaah, that they were "saints", asyad.

And in reality, it was shayaatin [deceiving them] to the point that al-Hallaj was seen flying. None of this means these people are righteous. These people did bid'ah and they called it "'ibaadat," and where they took them [their 'ibaadat] from was wrong and their niyya was wrong.

quote:
The mu`min (believer), on the other hand, does acts with sincerity and according to the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allaah (salallaahu 'alaihi wasallam), hoping for the reward from Allaah, fearing the punishment of Allaah, and while he is nasheet (energetic).

And Allaah knows best.
Wa salallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam

Subhanak Allaahuma wa bihamdika ash-hadu anlaa illaaha illa anta astaghfiruka wa atubu ilayk

If I said anything correct, then it is from Allaah (subhanahu wa taa'ala), and if I erred, then that is from me and shaytan.
