Fatwah of Shaikh Muqbil (rahimahullaah) concerning reading the older books of an individual who was once upon the correct minhaj, then went astray

Question: Those whom were once upon the correct methodology, then deviated, is it permissible to listen to their audio recordings, or read their books that were authored before they went astray?

Answer by Shaikh Muqbil (rahimahullaah):
quote:
I do not advise a person to listen to their lectures or read from their books. I am very much impressed by the statement of Shaikh ul-Islam Ibn Taymmiyah (rahimahullaah):
quote:
If Allaah did not bring about [Imam] Al-Bukhari nor [Imam] Muslim, Allaah would still preserve His religion.
Indeed Allaah has preserved His religion. Allaah said: {We have sent down the Book, and We will protect it. (aya 9 of Surat al-Hijr}} Therefore, I advise the people to abandon their books, audios and refrain from attending their lessons and lectures...

[There was this note that the admin/moderator of that site allowed on the bottom:
It should be understood that with regards to abandoning a person's books or tapes, the scholars should be referred to, meaning one should seek advice from the scholars before making this decision. It's possible the scholars would still advise one to read a person's books because of the benefit present in them, also because it's possible the person has returned to the straight path, etc. Therefore, it is important that a person refers back to the scholars in this matter and not take it as a general principle in every case. BarakAllahu feekum.]

Subhanak Allaahuma wa bihamdika ash-hadu anlaa illaaha illa anta astaghfiruka wa atubu ilayk

If I said anything correct, then it is from Allaah (subhanahu wa taa'ala), and if I erred, then that is from me and shaytan.
