Virtues of Madeenah
Taken from a variety of sources such as Fadaail Madeenah by Sheikh Abdulmuhsin al-'Abbad
Translated by Abdulilah ibn Rabah Lahmami

Allaah's Messenger r said, "Al-Madeenah is sacred from (mount)'Air to (mount)Thaur." [1]

'Abdullaah bin Zaid bin 'Asim r narrated that the Messenger of Allaah r said, "Ibrahim declared Makkah sacred and made supplication for its people; and I declare Al-Madeenah to be sacred as Ibrahim declared Makkah sacred, and I make supplication for its measures to be blessed twice as much as Ibrahim made supplication for the people of Makkah."[2]

"Madeenah is better for them if they but knew"[3]
This hadeeth shows that it is beneficial to live in Madeenah due to its blessing and benefits.

"Faith returns to Madeenah just as a snake that goes back to its hole."[4]

Tawbah: 108

"On the outskirts of Madeenah there are angels (protecting it) such that no disease nor Dajjal can enter it."[5]

The prophet r said, "What is between my house and my minbar (pulpit) is a garden from the gardens of paradise." [6]

The Prophet r said, "This is Uhud, it loves us and we love it."[7]

The Prophet r said, "Whoever has seven Ajwa dates in the morning, he will not be harmed on that day by poison nor magic."[8]

The Prophet r said, "Whoever has seven dates from those between the borders of Madeenah (any dates from Madeenah) as when he wakes up in the morning, he will be protected from poison until the evening."[9]

Sheikh AbdulMuhsin al-'Abbad says,

"It is preferable for a Muslim to visit the Prophet's Mosque as the Messenger r said,

"Do not take a journey (for worship) except to three mosques: my mosque, masjid al-Haram (Makkah) and Masjid Aqsa.[1]

Ibn Zubair رضى الله عنهما narrated that the Messenger of Allaah r said: "One prayer in this mosque of mine is better than a thousand elsewhere, except Al-Masjid AlHaram (the sacred Mosque); and one prayer in the Sacred Mosque is better than a prayer in this mosque of mine by a hundred prayers."[2]

Also, it is legislated to visit Masjid Quba and visiting his grave as well as his two companions (Abu Bakr and Umar ibn Khattab), visiting the graveyard of Baqee' and the Martrys of Uhud. Other than these five places in Madeenah, it is not legislated to visit any other places due to no proof for this. As for visiting the graves, then one is reminded of death and hence prepares for it due to the hadeeth of Abu Hurayrah rad that the Messenger r said, "so visit the graves for it reminds you of death."[3]

The deceased in their graves benefit from the supplication made for them because the Prophet would visit the graveyard of Baqee' and supplicate for them. The visitor must be warned against the innovated visits to the graves where the dead are called upon and relief from difficulty is sought from them because supplication is worshipand worship is only for Allaah alone.as Allaah, the Most High said, ""jinn 18
Allaah alone should be called upon and other than Him are supplicated for not called upon."[4]

[2] Reported by Ahmad and Ibn Hibbın graded it Sahih (sound) Similar wording is found in Bukhaaree (1190) and Muslim (3375).

As salaamu 'alaykum,

Does anyone know about the authenticity and reference for the hadeeth (paraphrased) "The one who learns in the Masjid of Rasoolullaah (i.e. Masjid an-Nabawee) is like a Mujaahid."

JazaakAllaah khayr.

wa alaikum asalam,

the hadeeth is authentic:

quote:
"Whoever enters this masjid of ours to learn good..., he is as a mujaahid fi sabeelillaah..."

Narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira;
Shaykh al-Albaanee graded it "Hasan" - as found in Saheeh al-Mawaarid number 69
