Assalaamualaikum,

A non-muslim co-worker of mine said that he heard that a Muslim can be executed if he converts to another religion.  I told him that this is correct since I remembered the hadith:

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: ?It is not permissible to shed the blood of a Muslim who bears witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah and that I am His Messenger, except in one of three cases: a soul for a soul (i.e., in the case of murder); a married man who commits adultery; and one who leaves his religion and splits form the jamaa?ah (main group of Muslims).? (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 6878; Muslim, 1676)

I didn't know any more details I could give him regarding this so could someone please give me a little more insight into this topic as to the conditions and the rulings once clear apostasy has been confirmed on an individual.  This would inshallah allow me to convey the correct information to my co-worker.

Barakallah feek,
Ifthikar
