Assalamu Alaikum What are the principles of takfir? When a Alim makes takfir on an individual and others oppose it, whose view takes precedance? For example, Imam Ibn Baaz (rahimahullah), made takfir on the ba'thi apostate Saddam Hussain, likewise Imam Muqbil (rahmahullah). However some people say there is a differance of opinion on Saddam (wether he is a kafir or not)??!!! It is also quoted from Imam al-Albani (rahimahullah), that he said (something like): "If you see 99 scholars making takfir on a individual and one scholar refrains from making takfir and puts doubt on this individuals kufr, then it is better to take that one scholar's view just to be on the safe side (so as not to mistakenly call someoone a kafir)." I don't have any referance for the above quote. Have any of the noble tulaabul ilm come across this quote from Imam al-Albani? Did Imam al-Albani really say this? Jazzak umullahu Khair
