Topic: Is this a Sunnah or Bidah?

  assalaamualaikum,

Could someone please tell me if the following is a Sunnah or Bid'ah and provide the evidence regarding it? :

After the salaah, the worshipper puts his right hand on his head and recites "Alhamdulillah hilladi huwarrahuma nurraheem".

May Allah(subhaanawataalaa) guide us on the path of those whom He (subhaanawataalaa) has favored. Ameen.

wassalaam,
Ifthikar

From the books of salaah and the chapters of adhkaar in the books if fiqh, I have never read something of the likes that you mentioned! (not that I am anyone anyway) maybe if you can qoute where you read the narration and where it is actualy collected will be a great help to find out the level of correctness of this narration.

I saw a brother do this after the salaah and asked him what he was doing and he explained that his teacher advised him.  I have asked him to find out the source of this action from the Sunnah and he said he will let me know.  I will keep you posted on any new information.  In the meantime if any of the other brothers have any information regarding this please let me know.

Barakallah feek brother Abu Salmaan

From what I remember, those who do this do it, because they believe it will help increase their memory while saying this concocted du'aa!

Our noble Ulamaa had this to say:

"It is not from the Sunnah to place the hand on the top of the head after the tasleem of the prayer, but rather its implementation is an innovated, newly invented matter. It has been established that the Prophet sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam said: "Whoever introduces anything into this affair of ours that is not of it, will have it rejected".
