Bismillah Alhumdulillah was salaatu was sallaamu 'ala rasulullah wa ba'ad

Assallaamu alaikum warahmatullah

BarakAllahu feekum ikhwaan wa akhawaat I again came across the article 'THE SUNNAH OF PLAITING/BRAIDING HAIR'.  It got me wondering about a conversation I had a while ago with some of my companions may Allah preserve me, them and you the reader upon the truth.  Ameen.

So the question I wish to ask is

"Has anybody come across anything from the authentic sunnah of the Messenger of Allah sallAllahu alaihi wassallam or his noble companions radiaAllahu anhum ajma'een that they used to braid or plait their beards or even have it done to them?

Jazakamullahu khairan wa hayakamullah

Here is a hadeeth that is related to the question, but it does not necessarily answer it...

وربما المبلغ أوعى من السامع

On the authority of Ruwayfi' ibn Thaabit (radhiyallaahu 'anhu), the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu 'alayhe wa sallam) said to me:

"O Ruwayfi'!  Perhaps you will live a long life after me, so inform the people that whoever causes his beard to be knotted [1], puts a "watar" on someone (or something) for protection [2], or makes instinjaa' with animal dung or a bone, then verily Muhammad is free from him!"

The hadeeth was collected by An-Nasaa'ee in the Book of Zeenah, and Imaam Al-Albaanee said in Mishkaat (#351), "Its chain is saheeh."

[1] من عقد ليحته
Meaning "whoever strokes his beard (or possible applies medicine to his beard) until it becomes knotted and kinky" as mentioned in Nihaayah

[2] وترا
"watar": Imaam Al-Albaanee said in his footnotes of Mishkaat (1/114): "A string that has charms or beads meant for defense against the 'ayn and for protection, they used to hang it on the necks of their sons and their horses."

  Yaa Abal Abbaas, Moosaa!

Do you think this portion of the narration concerning the beard عَقَدَ لِحْيَتَهُ - min baabil awlaa [then how much more the head] - could be an additional proof AGAINST the dreadlocks?

Abaa Tasneem -

I see your point, but I don't really understand the meaning of that part of the hadeeth so I can't agree or disagree right now.

  Asalaam u alkium

Now i have read what was written about braiding the beard from Abu Mariam and Moosa but assif Moosa how does this concern plating as plating is not knotting the hair so can you explain to me please how this hadith is relevant to plating of the hair? (beard)
