                    Unity an Obligation

by Shaykh Rabee ibn Haadi al-Madkhali حفظه الله
                   on Saturday August 21st, 2004

Introduction:

Indeed we are blessed to have with us our beloved Shaykh wa waalidunaa(and our father) Abu Muhammad Rabee ibn Haadi al-Madkhalihafidahullaahu taýaala and he is indeed a well-known scholar. We askAllaah to bless him in his knowledge, actions and his life.

The Shaykh hafidahullaahu taýaala began by praising Allaah سبحانه وتعالى and sending salaat and salaam upon the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم, his family his Companions and those who follow the guidance. Hethen thanked Allaah for this conference and for being invited to speakwith us and he praised Allaah سبحانه و تعالى that He guided us toIslaam, and to the manhaj of the Salaf.

The manhaj of the Salaf is (adhering to) the Book of Allaah سبحانه وتعالى and the Sunnah of Rasoolullaah صلى الله عليه و سلم upon the fiqhof the Salaf as-Saalih. He said, I order myself, and you with the taqwaof Allaah عز و جلand the uprightness and firmness upon this Deen andupon this manhaj. Allaah سبحانه و تعالى gave us advice, and the advicesare many and the orders are many; and from them is that Allaah سبحانه وتعالى says:

وَاعْتَصِمُوابِحَبْلِ اللَّهِ جَمِيعًا وَلَا تَفَرَّقُوا وَاذْكُرُوا نِعْمَةَاللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ إِذْ كُنْتُمْ أَعْدَاءً فَأَلَّفَ بَيْنَ قُلُوبِكُمْفَأَصْبَحْتُم بِنِعْمَتِهِ إِخْوَاناً
{And hold fast, all of you together, to the Rope of Allýh (i.e. thisQur'ýn), and be not divided among yourselves, and remember Allýh'sFavour on you, for you were enemies one to another but He joined yourhearts together so that, by His Grace, you became brethren (in IslýmicFaith) ý} [Aal-ýImraan 3:103]

Tawheed

And you must learn tawheed, the tawheed of Allaah سبحانه و تعالى ý that we worship Allaah سبحانه و تعالى and we do not associate partners with Him and we all hold together, fast upon this rope. The Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه و سلم said that "VerilyAllaah likes for you three things: that you worship Him anddisassociate anything as partners with Him; that you hold fast to theRope of Allaah and do not split; and that you submit or you obey theleaders over you; and He hates for you three things: ýhe-said,she-saidý (irrelevant talk), persistent questioning, and wasting ofwealth."[1] In this hadith and in the previous ayah there is a commandment regarding: holding onto the Rope of Allaah عز و جل, thabaath (being firm) upon that and the prohibition of splitting and dividing.

He hafidahullaahu taýaala went on to say that after the Sahaabah weresplit, Allaah سبحانه و تعالى guided them to Islaam and brought togetherbetween their hearts and put love between them. So Allaah سبحانه وتعالى has blessed and has given His favours to this Ummah. It is fromthe greatest blessings and favours which He bestowed upon us that Hemade us brothers, the niýmah (نعمة ý blessing) of aquwwah(أخوة ý brotherhood) ý the blessing of being brothers upon the Kitaaband the Sunnah and that we stay away from associating partners withAllaah سبحانه و تعالى. So, after worshipping Allaah سبحانه و تعالىAlone we come together as one, and we forbid shirk and we order with tawheed. The aayaat and ahaadeeth are many to this effect, in these aayaat and ahaadeeth we are shown the danger of shirk. We must learn these aayaat and ahaadeeth, the proofs of at-tawheed and the proofs of shirk.

ýIbaadah

We must also learn our ýibaadah ý how to worship Allaah in all types of ýibaadah as Allaah سبحانه و تعالى says:

وَمَاخَلَقْتُ الْجِنَّ وَالْإِنسَ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُونِ {55} مَا أُرِيدُمِنْهُم مِّن رِّزْقٍ وَمَا أُرِيدُ أَن يُطْعِمُونِ {56} إِنَّ اللَّهَهُوَ الرَّزَّاقُ ذُو الْقُوَّةِ الْمَتِينُ
{And I (Allýh) created not the jinns and humans except they should worship Me (Alone). I seek not any provision from them (i.e. provision for themselves or for My creatures) nor do I ask thatthey should feed Me (i.e. feed themselves or My creatures). Verily, Allýh is the All-Provider, Owner of Power, the Most Strong. } [adh-Dhaariyaat 51:56-58]

Sheikh al-Islaam Ibn Taimiyyah (Rahimahullaah) said that ýýibaadah(worship) is a comprehensive term for everything which Allaah سبحانه وتعالى loves and is pleased with from speech and actions ý apparent andhidden.ý There are many acts of ýibaadah, from them are:duýaa, seeking help from Allaah سبحانه و تعالى, hoping in Allaah سبحانهو تعالى, asking of Allaah سبحانه و تعالى, having trust in Allaah سبحانهو تعالى, being obedient to your parents, keeping the ties of the womb, seeking refuge with Allaah سبحانه و تعالى from the Shaitaan and otherthan him, establishing the salaah, giving the zakaah, fasting, performing hajj and so on and so forth.

The Importance of Knowledge

We need to study these ýibaadaat, we need to study howthey are done ý from the aspects of tawheed and doing them sincerelyfor Allaah سبحانه و تعالى; and we need to learn about shirk so we may stay away from it,and we need to know the halaal from the haraam, and again, all of thiscomes from the Book of Allaah سبحانه و تعالى and the Sunnah ofRasoolullaah صلى الله عليه و سلم and from the fiqh (understanding) of the Salaf.

This Knowledge is a great affair and the life of the Muslims cannot be upheld without it.Those that are deprived of it are deprived of everything, they cannotgo forth. We have to take advantage of the knowledge when it is givenand we have to seek the knowledge and strive for it.

The Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه و سلم said: ýVerily, Allaah does not take away knowledge by snatching it away fromthe people but He takes away knowledge by taking away the scholars, sothat when He leaves no learned person, people turn to ignorant ones astheir leaders; then they are asked to deliver religious verdicts andthey deliver them without knowledge, so they go astray, and lead othersastray.[2]

So take advantage of the ýUlamaa before they die and take advantage ofthe knowledge while it is around. Take advantage of them, go to them, call them, ask them, and travel, travel for this knowledge. This Ummahis in great need of those who go out and seek knowledge sincerely forAllaah سبحانه و تعالى, these are few, we donýt have many.

We must know the fadl (فضل ý virtue) of the ýUlamaa (Scholars) and the fadl of those who seek knowledge, we must know these virtues. ýVerily the angels put their wings down for the student of knowledge in approval of what they are doingý[3] and Allaah سبحانه و تعالى says:

إِنَّمَا يَخْشَى اللَّهَ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ الْعُلَمَاء
{ý It is only those who have knowledge among His slaves that fear Allýh ý} [Faatir 35:28]

And He says:

هَلْ يَسْتَوِي الَّذِينَ يَعْلَمُونَ وَالَّذِينَ لا يَعْلَمُونَ
{ýAre those who know equal to those who know not?...} [az-Zumar 39:9]

And Allaah سبحانه و تعالى says:

يَرْفَعِ اللَّهُ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مِنكُمْ وَالَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْعِلْمَ دَرَجَاتٍ
{ýAllýh will exalt in degree those of you who believe, and those who have been granted knowledgeý} [al-Mujaadilah 58:11]

We need this Knowledge more then we need water and air, we are in needof it because it is from this Knowledge that we understand why we werecreated. We need to find out why we were created, and this Knowledgeteaches us why. The Shaykh hafidahullaahu taýaala said we must learn,we must learn the knowledge of the Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم. We mustgo forth and seek it; we must take advantage before time runs out.

Manners between the Salaf

Then, if we have understood this Deen upon Knowledge, we becomebrothers upon this Knowledge, and this is the strongest bond that willbe formed upon this knowledge ý we will become brothers upon it. Bevery nice with each other, be easy with your brother and do not try tobe over him, be lowly (humble) and easy with him, and use wisdom andpatience with him. Many of the shabaabý the young men, have not been given this at all; and because of thisthey dispute between themselves. They have not been given patience and rifq (gentleness) and love between each other, and this has caused them to dispute and split apart.

It is upon you to take the asbaab ý the reasons for comingtogether. From them is seeking the knowledge, giving the salaam, makingyour rows straight and being together in salaah; give much salaam andgo over to each otherýs houses and be sincere with each other.

And leave the fighting, leave the argumentation, leave it, throw itaway ý if it comes, throw it away. Leave cutting each other off, leaveit! Leave turning your back away from each other, and if one of youthinks he wants to make hajrof the other i.e. where you want to separate from your brother, thenthis is not the way. If you want to do this then you must have thecorrect asbaab ý the correct means which are clear and whichcomes from the ýUlamaa ý an ýAalim (Scholar) that understands thebenefits and the harm, an ýAalim that differentiates between the personbeing upon the Sunnah or upon bidýah. This hajr is not betweenthe Salafiyeen at all, we need to leave this. The Salafiyeen are thosewho follow the Kitaab and the Sunnah upon the understanding of theSalaf ý ýUmar and ýAli and Abu Bakr etc. رضي الله عنهم. This is whatSalafiyyah is.

Also from this, is that we become hareef ý to hold ontenaciously, to the reasons, the means of becoming brothers; whatevermeans makes you get closer to your brother and makes that brotherhoodstronger go forth with it, hold on to it and keep it going.

As for the mubtadiý who is clear upon his bidýah, calling to it, unwavering from it, not taking the advice, then when this is known you make tahdheer(تحذير) i.e. you warn from him so that the people may not fall intothis bidýah that is clear and known. Warn from him, and give naseehah (advice) to the people to be aware of him and that this is a bidýah, and leave him.

As for between you, as-Salafiyeen ý the people that are upon this haqq, then know that there should be none of this, this is not allowed withyou, this is not the way ý you have to take the means and you have totake the approach that is correct for bringing together between thebrothers so that you may love each other. Leaving each other andturning your backs is not the way, you have to take the correct asbaabthat you may come together. And you have to help each other upon thismanhaj which you are upon, face your brother with the best face, anddeal with him in the best manner; he is your brother, he is the one youdeal with best. This will show the correct face of as-Salafiyyah, thiswill show everyone the true love, the true brotherhood, the correctface of this Deen. When you have come together, when you yourself dealwith each other like this, then you have shown the correct Deen.

The Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم said: ýIndeed Allaah is Rafeeq (Gentle), He loves rifq (gentleness) in all affairs.ý[4] and, ýVerilyrifq does not exist in something except that it beautifies it; and itis not taken out of something except that it harms it.ý[5]This is the meaning of what Rasool صلى الله عليه و سلم said regardingoneself and when dealing with the daýwah. This is what you do when yougive the daýwah ý give glad tidings and donýt drive the people away;give them glad tidings of what they will receive; and by your actionsmake it easy and not hard for them to accept it. If this is how youdeal even with the kaafir (disbeliever), so how is it then with yourbrother ý he has the highest levels of rifq. Allaah سبحانه وتعالى loves this leniency in all of the affairs and whoever loves thisDeen and loves Allaah سبحانه و تعالى and loves the Messenger صلى اللهعليه و سلم and loves the haqq he is upon, then he will force himself to leave his shiddah(harshness) and he will take the means of leniency because of his lovefor the Deen and the Messenger صلى الله عليه و سلم and the haqq that he is upon.

So, one has to be like this in giving the Daýwah and in his dealingswith his brothers etc. We must come together and associate with eachother, and especially with the Salafis, in the best manner possible, showing the best face we can. In every single affair we have with them, and in every sphere of life we deal with them in the very best way. Ifwe donýt do this and we donýt leave our harshness for each other, andput forth the means of love and coming together amongst each other, then we will dispute, and we will have differences and we will split. The people that are not from it, they will run away, and Rasool صلىالله عليه و سلم said: O People! Verily there are among you those who chase people away! [6] So ýgive the glad tidings and do not chase the people away, and make easy and do not make hard the affairsý[7].

The Shaykh hafidahuAllaah went on to make duýaa that Allaah سبحانه وتعالى grant us success so that we act upon this (advice) and that westay all together upon the haqq  the manhaj of as-Salafiyyah, and he made some other duaa  duaa for us to stay true (saadiqeen)and sincere to Him and he made much duýaa for us. Baarak Allaahu Feehiwa Jazaahu Allaahu Khairan and this is where he ended his talkhafidahullaahu, and we ask Allaah سبحانه و تعالى that He grant him shifaaý(cure) because he was feeling a little bit tired and this is the end ofthe Shaykhýs hafidahullaahu taýaala lecture. JazakaýAllaahu Khairan.

  A Single Ummah

ImageKnowledge filled words from the Scholars, past and present regarding Muslim unity.

"Splitting up is not from the Religion, since the Religion commands us with unity and that we should be a single Jamaaýah and a single Ummah upon the ýaqeedah (belief) of Tawheed (i.e. to single out Allaah alone for worship) and upon following the Messenger (sallallaahu ýalayhi wa sallam)".

[1]: THE OBLIGATION TO UNIFY THE RANKS:

Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Saalih al-ýUthaymeen - hafidhahullaah - said:

ýFrom the sincere advice which I hold to be necessary in the Religion to give to the youths, a word which I hope that Allaah - the Most Perfect, the Most High - will cause to be of benefit, and it is: That they should all be in conformity and harmony, so that they may become strong, and become an obstacle blocking the way of those who plot against Islaam and its people. This is what Allaah - the Mighty and Majestic - has enjoined upon us. He - the Most High - said:

"And hold fast altogether to the rope of Allaah and do not be divided. And remember the favour of Allaah upon you, in that you were once enemies to one another, but He joined your hearts together, so that by His Grace you became brothers.ý [Soorah Aali-ýImraan 3:103]

And Allaah the Blessed, the Most High - said:

ýLet there arise from amongst you a group of people inviting to all that is good, enjoining the good and forbidding the evil. It is they who are the successful ones. And do not be like those who differed amongst themselves after the clear proofs had come to them; for them is a painful punishment.ý [Soorah Aali-ýImraan 3:104-105]

So Allaah ordered that they should all cling together to His rope and He forbade splitting, and in other aayaat He forbade differing, and informed us that it is the cause of failure and the cause of decline of strength, and He ordered us to persevere patiently. So Allaah - the Most High - said:

ýAnd do not differ, lest you lose courage and your strength departs, and be patient. Indeed Allaah is with those who are patient.ý [Sooratul-Anfaal 8:46]

And as is known, the people of good who help the youths of the revival in their work - with what they are able from wealth, and so on - if they see them splitting in this way, then they will not be so eager to help and assist them. So I call all of our brothers to unite together, and to fear Allaah with regards to themselves and with regards to the Ummah (nation) of Islaam, and that they should not cover up this light which has appeared on the horizon; the call to Allaah - the Mighty and Majestic...ý [1]

Ibn Taymiyyah (d.728H) - rahimahullaah - said:

ýHolding fast to the rope of Allaah altogether and not becoming divided is one of the greatest usool (fundamentals) of Islaam.ý [2]

[2]:THE PROHIBITION OF SPLITTING:

Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan - hafidhahullaah - said: "Splitting up is not from the Religion, since the Religion commands us with unity and that we should be a single Jamaaýah and a single Ummah upon the ýaqeedah (belief) of Tawheed (i.e. to single out Allaah alone for worship) and upon following the Messenger (sallallaahu ýalayhi wa sallam). Allaah - the Most High - said:

ýIndeed this Ummah of yours is a single Ummah and I am your Lord, so worship Me alone.ý [Sooratul-Anbiyaaý 21:92]

And Allaah ý the Most High ý said:

ýAnd hold fast altogether to the rope of Allaah and do not become divided.ý [Soorah Aali-ýImraan 3:103]

And Allaah - the Most Perfect - said:

ýIndeed those who split-up their Religion and become sects, you have no part with them in the least. Their affair is with Allaah who will tell them what they used to do.ý [Soorah al-An'aam 6:159]

So this contains a severe warning against splitting and differing. Allaah - the Most High - said:

ýAnd do not be like there who split-up and differed after the clear evidences came to them. For them is a tremendous punishment.ý [Soorah Aal-ýImraan 3:105]

So our Religion is the Religion of al-Jamaaýah, and the Religion of agreement and unity. Splitting is not from the Religion, since the Religion orders that we are a single Jamaaýah and the Prophet (sallallaahu ýalayhi wa sallam) said: ýThe Believer to the Believer is like a building, one part supporting the other.ý [3] And he (sallallaahu ýalayhi wa sallam) also said: ýThe example of the Believers with respect to their mutual love, mercy and affection is like the example of a single body.ý [4] And it is known that a building and a body are a single cohesive thing, not disunited and fragmented - since if a building splits then it will collapse; and likewise a body, if it splits, then life will be lost. Thus, there must be a unity and we must be a single Jamaaýah whose foundation is Tawheed and whose methodology is the daýwah (call) of the Messenger (sallallaahu ýalayhi wa sallam); and which proceeds upon the Religion of Islaam. Allaah - the Most High - said:

ýAnd this is My Straight Path, so follow it, and do not follow other paths that will separate you from His Path.ý [Sooratul-Anýaam 6:153]

So these groups, and this splitting which is present today, is not approved of by Islaam. Rather, Islaam forbids it severely and commands uniting upon the ýaqeedah (belief) of Tawheed and upon the methodology of Islaam, a single Jamaaýah and a single Ummah, just as our Lord - the Most Perfect, the Most High - ordered. And splitting and their being many (differing) groups and parties is from the plots of the devils - from the jinn and mankind against this Ummah. So the kuffaar (disbelievers) and the munaafiqs (hypocrites) have never ceased, since olden times, introducing their poison in order to split the Ummah. The Jews said previously: ýAnd a party of the People of the Book say: Believe in the morning in that which is revealed to the Muslims, but reject it at the end of the day, so they turn back.ý [Soorah Aali-ýImraan 3:72]

Meaning: that the Muslims will leave their religion when they see you leaving it. And the Hypocrites said:

ýDo not spend on those who are with Allaahýs Messenger until they desert him.ý [Sooratul-Munaafiqoon 63:7]

ýAnd as for those who erect a mosque by way of disbelief and seeking to harm and disunite the Believers...ý [Sooratut-Tawbah 9:107].ý [5]

[3]: THE CONNECTION BETWEEN UNITY AND REFUTING FALSE BELIEFS AND PRACTICES:

Shaykh ýAbdul-ýAzeez Ibn Baaz - rahimahullaah - said:

ýThere is no doubt that it is obligatory upon the Muslims to unify their ranks and to unite their word upon the truth and to co-operate in goodness and piety against the enemies of Islaam - as Allaah, the Most Perfect - ordered them with in His saying:

ýAnd hold fast altogether to the rope of Allaah and do not become divided.ý [Soorah Aal-ýImraan 3:102]

And likewise, Allaah has warned the Muslims against splitting up, as occurs in His - the Most Perfectýs - saying:

ýAnd do not be like those who differed and split-up after the clear evidences came to them.ý [Soorah Aali-ýImraan 3:105]

However, the order to unify the Muslims and unite their word upon the truth and to hold fast to the rope of Allaah, does not mean that they should not censure wrong beliefs and practices - whether from the Soofiyyah or other than them. Rather, what the order to hold fast to the Rope of Allaah necessitates is: To order the good; forbid the evil; to clarify the truth, with the clear Shareeýah proofs, to whomsoever is misguided or has a mistaken opinion, until they unite upon the truth and turn away from that which opposes it. All of this is included in His - the Most Perfectýs - saying:

ýAnd help you one another in righteousness and piety, and do not help one another in sin and transgression.ý [Sooratul-Maaýidah 5:2]

And His - the Most Perfectýs - saying:

ýLet there arise from amongst you a group of people calling to all that is good, enjoining the good and forbidding the evil, they are the ones who are successful.ý

[Soorah Aali-ýImraan 3:110]

And when the people of truth hold back from clarifying the mistakes of those who have erred or are mistaken, then they will not have achieved that which Allaah ordered them with, as regards calling to goodness, ordering the good and forbidding the evil. So the person in error will remain upon his error, and the one acting in opposition to the truth will remain upon his mistake. And this is contrary to what Allaah - the Most Perfect - prescribed, with regards to sincere advice, co-operation upon goodness, ordering the good and forbidding the evil - and Allaah alone is the One Who grants success.ý [6]

Shaykhul-lslaam Ibn Taymiyyah - rahimahullaah - said: ýRefuting the People of Innovation is a Jihaad, to the extent that Yahyaa Ibn Yahyaa (d.226H) said: ýDefence of the Sunnah is more excellent than Jihaad in the Path of Allaah.ý[7]ý[8]

Imaam al-Humaydee (d.218H) - rahimahullaah - said: ýBy Allaah, that I fight against those who reject the hadeeth of Allaahýs Messenger (sallallaahu ýalayhi wa sallam) is more beloved to me than fighting the unbelievers.ý [9]

Imaam Ibnul-Qayyim (d.751H) - rahimahullaah - said: ýJihaad with the clear proofs and the tongue; Comes before Jihaad with the sword and the spear.ý [10]

Shaykhul-lslaam Ibn Taymiyyah - rahimahullaah - said: ýWhen some people asked Ahmad bin Hanbal (d.241H) that they felt uneasy about (criticising people) by saying that such and such is this, and such and such is that, he replied: ýIf I were to remain silent, how would the ignorant ones know the authentic (narrations) from the inauthentic?ý Similarly, the innovators who introduce heretical writings which oppose the Qurýaan and the Sunnah, and those who innovate in matters of worship, then explaining their true condition and warning the Ummah against them is an obligation by the unanimous agreement of the Muslim Scholars. In fact, when Imaam Ahmad Ibn Hanbal was asked whether a person who fasted, prayed and secluded himself in the mosque for worship was dearer to him than a person who spoke out against Ahlul-Bidýah (the people of innovators), he replied: ýWhen he fasts and prays and secludes himself, then he does so for the benefit of his own self. However, when he speaks out against the innovators, he does so for the benefit of the Muslims in general, and this is more virtuous.ý So it is clear that opposing the Innovators is of general benefit to the Muslims and is considered one of the types of Jihaad in the path of Allaah. Since purifying the Religion of Allaah, and its minhaaj (methodology), its Shareeýah, and defending it from their attacks and that of their enemies is a collective obligation - a fact which is agreed upon by the Scholars. For if Allaah did not raise up some people to repel the harms (caused by) others, then the Religion would become corrupted. Indeed, this type of corruption is even greater than the corruption resulting from the disbelievers conquering the Muslims. This is because when the disbelievers conquer the Muslims, they do not corrupt their hearts nor their Religion, except after some time. Whereas the innovators corrupt the hearts from the very outset.ý [11]

  The Ways to Achieve Unity

AUTHOR: Shaikh Saalih Al-Fawzaan
SOURCE: Al-Ajwibat-ul-Mufeedah 'an As'ilat-il-Manaahij-il-Jadeedah (pg. 130-131) [2nd Edition]
PRODUCED BY: Al-Ibaanah.com

[68] Question: What are the means and ways of achieving unity?

[68] Answer: The means of achieving unity are:

First: Correcting oneýs Creed, such that it becomes purified from Shirk. Allaah says:

ýVerily this nation of yours is one (unified) nation, and I am your Lord, so be dutiful to Me.ý [Surah Al-Muýminoon: 52]

This is since it is only the correct creed that will unite the hearts and vanquish the malice, as opposed to their being various beliefs and several deities, for each adherent of a creed will incline towards his own creed and deity, whilst holding that which others are upon to be falsehood. This is why Allaah says:

ýAre many different lords (i.e. gods) better or Allaah, the One, the Irresistible.ý [Surah Yoosuf: 39]

This is why in the Days of Ignorance, the Arabs were divided and suppressed in the earth. But when they entered into Islaam and their creed (beliefs) became rectified, they united their ranks and unified their rule.

Second: Hearing and Obeying the Muslim Rulers, which is why the Prophet(sallalahu alayhi wasallam) said: ýI counsel you to have Taqwaa (fear/obedience) of Allaah, and to hear and obey (the rulers) even if an Abyssinian slave assumes leadership over you. For indeed, whoever lives (long) among you will see great differingýý The reason for this is because disobeying the Muslim ruler results in differing.

Third: Returning back to the Book and the Sunnah to quell disputes and end differing. Allaah says:

ýSo if you differ in some matter, then return it back to Allaah and His Messenger, if you truly believe in Allaah and the Last Day. That is better and more suitable for final determination.ý [Surah An-Nisaa: 59]

So one should not turn back to the opinions and traditions of men.

Fourth: Rectifying and reconciling, when disputes occur, between individuals or between nations. Allaah says:

ýSo fear Allaah and rectify all matters of dispute amongst you.ý [Surah Al-Anfaal: 1]

Fifth: Fighting the transgressors and Khawaarij who seek to split the Muslimýs unity. If they are strong and powerful, they will demolish the Muslim society and corrupt the ummah. Allaah says:

ýBut if one of them transgresses against the other, then fight against the one that transgresses.ý [Surah Al-Hujuraat: 9]

This is why the Commander of the Believers, ýAlee bin Abee Taalib, may Allaah be pleased with him, fought against the transgressors and the Khawaarij. And this was considered one of the greatest of his virtues.

ýThat which I fear the most for my ummah is every well spoken hypocriteý
