  Salaam 'alaykum wa Rahmatullaah,

Could one of the tulaab please ask this question to one of the mashayikh. Jazak Allaah khair.

The community of Muslims in my city here in the US began their fasting on Saturday of this year, and was supposed to began their Tarweeh that Friday night. They didn't sight the moon nor did they complete 30 days of Shabaan. In addition to this I do not now that they had even used lunar calculations because most of the people here who used this method this year began their fasting on Monday with their taraweeh beginning the Sunday night.

Last year these same Muslims prayed their 'Eid on Friday and the majority of Muslims even in the cities near us prayed their 'Eid on Saturday. In fact on yaumul Jumu'ah a week before the 'Eid after the khutbah the imaam said, "we will have 'Eid next Friday at such and such location." And the same scenario will repeat itself this year because the place they are holding the 'Eid has to be reserved for a specific day, so they will make the 'Eid at this place regardless of whether the 'Eid is truly on that day or not. And what seems to be the habit is that they seem, wa Allaahu alam, to always try to have their 'Eid on Yaumul Jumu'ah.

With this being the case do the Salafees in this city begin their Ramadaan and have their 'Eid with these people?

Also the imaam prayers (makes du'aa) along with the kufaar and holds their hands regardless of whether they a men or women in their places of worship, along with many other things. I have witnessed this first hand because I used to go with him to these gathering before Allaah guided me to Salafiyyaah wa Alhamdulillaah. Is the prayer valid behind this imaam?

For all of you who want to know, this is just some of the baatil and dalaalah that takes place in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Was salaam 'alaykum,
Abu Muhammad Hasan Grooms
