Topic: Allaah answers the prayers of the righteous, especially the prophets... but here's an intriguing question!

In general, Allaah answers the prayers of the people who call upon him Alone.

"And your Lord has said: Call upon Me (alone) and I shall respond to you." (Soorah Ghaafir, v.60)

And Allaah answers the prayers of His Prophets and Messengers, as their supplications have a very special status.

So here's the question:  How do we understand the occasions when Allaah did not answer the supplications of the Prophet Muhammad (sallallaahu alayhe wa sallam)?

For example, after the Battle of Uhud in the year 3 (after Hijrah), the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu alayhe wa sallam) invoked Allaah's curses upon some of the polytheists who harmed him and killed the Muslims in the battle.  However, Allaah did not answer this prayer as it was asked.  In fact, they were guided to Islaam afterwards, and they became devout Muslims.

How do you think we can understand this?  The Prophet (sallallaahu alayhe wa sallam) prayed against them, and then Allaah guided them to Islaam...?

The answer(s) to this question will lead us (in shaa' Allaah) to two very important matters related to towheed (the worship of Allaah alone).
