question posted on behalf of a brother.

Asalaamu alaikum wa rahmathullaah-he wa barakathu-hu

Would a brother be so kind as to provide the text and references (the source that I obtained this hadith reference from states: 'Recorded by Ibn Majaah and others') of the hadith where Mu'aath ibn Jabal after coming back from ash-Shaam prostrated to the Prophet and provide a good tafseer from the ulema of this hadith preferably in relation to one from whom an excuse is initially given for an action that may have been done out of ignorance.

Jazakumullahu khair

Abdullaah ibn Abee Awfaa, radiyallaahu anhu reported that when Mu'aadh radiyallaahu anhu returned from Syria, he prostrated before the Prophet sallallaahu alaihe wa sallam. He (the Prophet) sallallaahu alaihe wa sallam said, O Mu'aadh, what is this? He (Mu'aadh) replied, I went to Syria encountered and found them (the Syrian Christians) prostrating before their heads (i.e. religious leaders) and rulers. I liked in myself that we should do (the same) with you. With this, the Messenger of Allaah sallalaahu alaihe wa sallam said:

"Don't do this. If I were to command anyone to prostrate before anyone besides Allaah, I would have commanded the wife to prostrate before her spouse. I swear by Him in who the soul of Muhammad is in his Hand, a woman will not be fulfilling the right of her Lord, till she carries out the right of her husband. And if he asks her to sumbit herself (sexually) she should not refuse him even if she is (sitting) on a qatab* (camel's saddle)".

*It is said that this instrument was used by the Arab women (like the birthing chair is used in these days) to make it easier to give birth.

This was said by our Prophet sallallaahu alaihe wa sallam to emphasize how serious this right of the husband.
