"The lifespan of (the members of) my ummah are between 60 and 70, and few go beyond that."

an authentic hadeeth found in at-tirmithee, see the silsilah #757

Aboo Nu'aym in Ma'rifatus-Sahaabah mentions that it has been said that Salmaan radhiyallaahu anhu lived 250 or 350 years.  It is commonly mentioned in the books of taareekh.  Ath-Thahabee also mentioned it in Siyar but rejected it.

I asked this question to Shaykh Rabee' about two weeks ago, and after reading the section from Ath-Thahabee about the life of Salmaan Al-Faarisee, he said, that he most likely lived a normal lifespan, between 60 and 70 years.

Subhaan Allaah, some historians even mentioned that he was alive since the time of 'Eesaa 'alayhe as-salaam.

If someone could research this, I suspect that they may come to the conclusion that this is from the invented narrations of the shee'ah, since they accept Salmaan as being from ahlul-bayt and thus honor him.  They have a lot of crazy narrations about the companions that they love, going overboard in their status, just like they go overboard hating the rest of the companions, insulting them, lying on them and making takfeer of them.

On the other hand, reading the text of the story of Salmaan al-Faarisee about how he came to Islaam, like what was presented by the esteemed brother Abu Talhah (may Allaah reward him) the other night on Paltalk from the Silsilah of Shaykh Al-Albaanee, hints that he did have a detailed and kind of lenghty history before he found his way to the Prophet (sallallahau 'alayhe wa sallam).

We can't outright deny it based on the hadeeth, since the hadeeth does not speak about those that go on beyond 60 or 70, or it could be that Salmaan was an exception.  And we can not deny it solely based on intellect either, since Allaah can extend the lifespan of whoever He likes however He likes.

Allaah knows best.
