بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم الحمد لله والصلاة والسلام على رسول الله وعلى آله وصحبه .ومن اتبع هداه السلام عليكم ورحمةالله وبركاته The books of the Sufis do not purify the soul, rather they corrupt it with Shirkh and Bid'ah and poison it with their misguidance and heedlessness. And from the most notorious books of false ahadeeth and misguided views is the book "Ihyaa 'Uloom ud-Deen" of Abu Haamid al-Ghazaalee, which was widely refuted by Ahl us-Sunnah and ordered publicly burned in many lands. Stated Shaikh Rabee' ibn Haadee in his "The Methodology of Ahl us-Sunnah In Warnings Against Innovators And Their Books", in quoting Imaam Ibn al-Jawzee (rahimahullaah):
And he stated in it as well, haafidhahullaah:
So this man al-Ghazzaalee was an extreme Sufi, and is not to be read from. And every Salafee should have read this book, which I am quoting from, of our Shaikh, al-'Allaamah Rabee' us-Sunnah ibn Haadee al-Madkhali which can be found at: http://www.salafipublications.com/sps/sp.cfm?subsecID=BDH05&articleID=BDH050002&articlePages=1 This is rather better suited for Purification of the Heart, for what heart is pure which is upon deviation and misguidance, and overlooks evil and abstains from establishing the good, as is the case of those who include the innovators within the Ahl us-Snunah and defend them and make excuses for them. And the Shaikh has recommended the books of the Shuyukh ul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah and Ibn al-Qayyim al-Jawziyyah, and they have written great works which will purify the Believer and soften his heart, such as "al-'Ubudiyyah" and "The Path To Guidance" and many others. So, in accordance with his general recommendation of them, and of the scholars at large, I would say to give precedence to reading these great books on the topic of Tazkiyyatun Nafs.

Wa Jazaak ya Akhi. I noticed that Abdul-Maalik al-Qaasim's book "Slander" is sold on Salafibookstore.com, so I think we can take this as a tazkiyah for his books Inshallaah. From what I remember, Muqhtasar Minhaaj al-Qaasideen of Imaam ibn Qadaamah (rahimahullaah) is actually a Salafi "rendition" of Ihyaa Uloom ud-Deen, though it is completely different in its layout. And he is from the great scholars of the Salaf so read this one without fear Inshallaah. وصلى الله وسلم على نبينا محمد وعلى آله وصحبه وسلم تسليما كثيراً والسلام عليكم ورحمةالله وبركاته
