Assalaamu 'alaikum wa rahmatullah

Is it allowed for a salafi to say that (that he or she follows the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam but not say he's or she's a salafi) in order to avoid arguments with the people that think salafis are "Wahhabis" (like sufis)if this is the main or only reason why he or she doesnt call herself salafi in front of muslims he or she doesnt know?

If someone asks what is your madhab, what and how we should reply?

barakaAllaahu feekum.

wassalaamu alaikum

wa Alaikumus Salaam wa Rahmatullaah

Ya Ahkee, as for me personally, whenever someone from the Muslims in general (non-Salafee) asks me a question like "Which Shaykhs do you follow?"  I always answer by saying Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu alaihi wa salam).  When asked about my methodolgy, I reply by saying the Qur'aan and Sunnah.  And if I'm asked specifically about my madhhab, I answer by saying that I follow the way of the Salaf Muslims insha'Allaah.

It's been my experience that the average Muslim will usually accept those answers and leave it at that or else they become curious and It gives me the opportunity to explain to them the correct creed and the correct manhaj (by the permission of Allaah).  However, some (mostly the extreme deviants) will say something like...   "So, you're a Wahhabi?" or even try to corner you into debating with them.  Here in my area, it's mostly the fanatic Tableeghee's who are fond of accusing Salafees of being "Wahhabis" and "Extremists", especially if you oppose their misguided form of da'wah.

And Allaah Knows Best

Ibraheem Bukharee (son of Abdullaah)
