Al-Albaanee States Warning Against & Abandoning Ahlul-Bid'ah Is The Foundation With Ahlus-Sunnah & Only The One Who is Established Upon The Sunnah, Calls To It, Warns Against The Bid'ah & Warns The People From It, Only He Should Invite Them With The Purpose Of Establishing The Proof Upon Them

Further Clarification For Bilal Philips & His Muqallids

1. Characteristics of the one who is fit and capable of calling the Innovators away from their bidah.
2. Criticism of those who have little knowledge and decide to debate and correct the Innovators.
3. Shaykh al-Albaanee advises them to abandon and leave the Innovators, not to discuss with them, otherwise they will be affected.
4. He explains the reason why, because the shubuhaat spread to whoever listens to them.
5. Establishes that the way of the Salaf was to warn from the Innovators, and order the general people to not sit with them, fearing that their doubts might enter them.

This speech of Shaykh al-Albaanee clarifies a lot of the confusion spread by some of the Mumayyi'oon today who try to use some of the Shaykh's speech to justify their co-operation and lenience with the Innovators.

Speaking Against The Evil Amongst The Dead

Imaam Bukhaari (rahimahullaah) said: Chapter: 'What Is Forbidden As Regards Reviling The Dead'

Narrated Aisha (radiyallaahu-anhaa): The Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) said: 'don‎t revile the dead, because they have reached the destination of what they forwarded' [Book of Funerals; Hadith No:1393]

Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz (rahimahullaah) commented briefly on this hadith saying:

'If revilement is for the (purpose) of giving a warning, as in the (case) of an innovator so that he is not taken as an example to be followed, then there is no forbiddance in this; for it is (done) from the angle of warning and not revilement.' [1]

Imaam Bukhaari (rahimahullaah) also stated: Chapter: 'Talking about the wicked from the dead'

Narrated Ibn Abbaas: Abu Lahab, may Allaah curse him, once said to the Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam), ‎‎Perish you all day‎‎.  Then the Devine Revelation came: ‎‎Perish the two hands of Abu Lahab‎‎ [Book of funerals; Hadith No: 1394]

Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz (rahimahullaah) commented briefly on this hadith saying:

It is as if the author (i.e. Imaam Bukhaari) intends that the wicked ones are not included in this prohibition (of revilement) and this is apparent from what has preceded.  And as far as they are warned against, then the intent is not that they are dispraised. [2]

And the ulama have consensus on the permissibility of criticizing the unreliable narrators of (hadeeth) whether they are alive or dead [3]

I would like to thank my noble brother Abu Abdir Rahmaan Mahdi Ar-Rayyaan Al-Maghribee who assisted me in reading the chapter in Fathul Baaree.  May Allaah reward him and all the brothers with good in this life and the next.

The Scholars Speak Against Those Who Are Upon Deviated Views and Behaviour Even If They Have Passed Away

Question to Shaikh Saaleh Al-Fawzaan (hafidha-hullaah)

Question: A weak sense of piety is spreading among some of the students of knowledge, and that is:

When they hear the sincere advisers among the students or scholars warning against bidah, its people and paths, and making mention of the reality of that which they are upon and then refuting them; and they (the sincere advisers) would mention some of the names of (those being refuted) even if they have passed away (died) due to the trial the people are subjected to through them, and that is for the purpose of defending the Religion and to unveil the deception of those who mix truth with falsehood and those who speak ill of (the deen) within the ranks of the Ummah and continue the splitting and differing in the Ummah; then those (with this weak sense of piety) claim that this (speaking against the innovators and mentioning the names of some of them) is from the forbidden types of backbiting.  So what is your statement/remark in this affair?

Answer:

The principle with regards to this (affair) is about warning against mistakes and deviation after identifying it as such.   And if the affair requires making known the name of an individual from the obstinate opposers so that beguilement does not occur through their (affair), particularly those individuals with deviated views or deviation in behaviour and manhaj, and are well known among the people and the people have a good opinion of them; then there is no harm in mentioning them by their names and their methodology warned against.

The scholars carry out research in the science of criticism and praise, and would then mention the narrators and that which has been stated of reproach against them.  This is not for the purpose of personal (criticism); rather it is for the purpose to giving advice to the Ummah in case they come across affairs from these individuals that are harmful to the Religion or lies against the Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam).

So first and foremost, this principle is about warning against mistakes; but the one that committed such mistake/s is not to be mentioned if that would either lead to greater harm or if there is no benefit in mentioning him.  However, if the affair requires that his name be made known for the purpose of warning the people against his manhaj, then this is from sincerity to Allaah, His Book, His Messenger, to the leaders of the Muslims and their common folk; especially if he (the one warned against) is active amongst the people and they have a good opinion of him and acquire his books and tapes; then there has to be clarification and the people must be warned; because (employing) silence will be harmful to the people.

His affair has to be unveiled, but not for the purpose of defamation or following one‎s desires (in that); rather it has to be for the purpose of sincerity to Allaah, His Book, His Messenger, the leaders of the Muslims and their common people.

Way to deal with the followers of Batiniyyah and Ahlul-Bid'ah

Q: How can I deal with the Batiniyyin {followers of Batiniyyah: a deviant sect that follows many false beliefs such as believing that 'Aly (may Allah be pleased with him) is a god and that prophethood of Muhammad (peace be upon him) was abrogated by the coming of the Seventh Imam Ja'far ibn Muhammad} and people of Bid'ah (innovation in religion), who come to live in our country? It may be worth mentioning that these people may be students, teachers, physicians, patients, or colleagues.

A: You must avoid whoever exposes their Bid'ah and reveres the Prophet's family members excessively whether 'Ali, Fatimah, etc. or even any one of the other Sahabah (Companions of the Prophet). This is because worshipping the Prophet's family members and revering the Sahabah excessively is Kufr (disbelief) and Riddah (apostasy). Whoever reveals their Bid'ah must be abandoned. They should not be taken as friends or greeted. These people of Bid'ah do not deserve to be teachers or to be entrusted with any such position as they cannot be trusted. However, those who do not manifest their Bid'ah and show that they are Muslims have to be given the same treatment as other Muslims. A proof for this is narrated in a Sahih (authentic) Hadith that when the Prophet (peace be upon him) was asked: What are the best deeds in Islam? The Prophet (peace be upon him) replied: To feed 'the poor' and say the greeting of peace (As-salamu 'alaykum warahmatullah wabarakatuh (May Allah's Peace, Mercy, and Blessings be upon you!)) to those whom you know and those whom you do not Know. Consequently, whoever reveals their Islam is to be considered a Muslim; we greet them with the greeting of peace and return their greeting. On the other hand, whoever expresses their Shirk (associating others with Allah in His Divinity or worship) is not considered our brother (in Islam) while whoever reveals their Bid'ah is to be abandoned until they give it up and surrender to the truth.

Likewise, you must stay away from whoever publicly commits sins such as Zina (premarital sexual intercourse and/or adultery) and drinking Khamr (intoxicants) though such sinful people may be Muslims. You must keep away from them until they offer Tawbah (repentance to Allah) from drinking Khamr and stop their abominable actions.

Regarding non-Muslim people who enter our country under an 'Ahd (pledge) of security or are given asylum, they have to be given medical treatment, advised, taught, and called to Allah until they are judged by Him (Glorified and Exalted be He). However, if they are Harbi (one who is at war against Muslims), they are not to be given medical treatment, as they will subjected to Allah's command.
