Those Who Accuse Their Critics of Jealousy Written by Abul-Hasan Maalik Ibn Aadam It has become all too common today that when an individual is criticized, or his errors refuted, that the one who errs and is corrected - or his companions and followers - accuses those who have made the criticism with being motivated by jealousy. In the 90's, when the Scholars began to warn against the hizbee, Aboo Muslimah, his followers began to respond with the baseless argument that those who presented the statements of Aboo Muslimah to the Shaykh [Rabee' Ibn Haadee] did so due to envy for his position before the people. We mention what our Shaykh, the Muhaddith of Yemen, Muqbil Ibn Haadee al-Waadi'ee (d.1421H), would often mention to us, "We are not the least bit moved by position; we are sufficed with "Allaah said and His Messenger said." And we are well aware that it is Allah Alone Who raises a people or lowers them. Allaah says,

When you are told to make room in the assemblies, (spread out and) make room. Allâh will give you (ample) room (from His Mercy). And when you are told to rise up [for prayers, Jihâd (holy fighting in Allâh's Cause), or for any other good deed], rise up. Allâh will exalt in degree those of you who believe, and those who have been granted knowledge. And Allâh is Well-Acquainted with what you do. |

| And the statement of the Messenger of Allaah in the Saheeh (no. 817) of Imaam Muslim (d.261H) upon the authority of 'Umar Ibnul-Khattaab (radiyallaahu 'anhu) that the Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) stated, "Indeed Allah will raise with this Book a people and lower others with it." And this evil pattern continued to show up when the likes of Aboo Usaamah, Yasir Qadhi, Bilaal Philips and others were refuted. This groundless statement has become famous upon the tongues of the party-partisans and those who have blind love and attachment to personalities. So in an attempt to refute this argument and remind those who have made it the cornerstone of their response to the criticisms, I wanted to share a very profound observation upon this issue from the carrier of the banner of al-Jarh wat-Ta'deel in these times, our Shaykh Rabee' Ibn Haadee al-Madkhalee. Shaykh Rabee' Ibn Haadee al-Madkhalee said in an-Naqd Manhajun-Shar'iyyun (Criticism is an Islaamically Legislated Methodology) (p. 12),
| quote: |
"And al-Bukhaaree (d.256H) and Muslim (d.261H) before this, ad-Daaraqutnee (d.385H) came and critiqued [some] narrations from them, and Aboo ýAlee al-Jiyaanee and others from the Scholars critiqued what was in the two Saheehs and clarified what was in them from 'Ilal (hidden matters), and perhaps the two Shaykhs (al-Bukhaaree and Muslim) were correct in most cases, but this did not stir up a battle [between them]. Why not? Because they respected the intellect of the people, and they respected the haqq (truth) and at the same time had a good thought about the people, and not everyone who criticizes a person is to thought of badly and be said of him, 'He is motivated by envy, jealousy and animosity,' as it occurs todayý" |

May Allaah make this brief statement a benefit for all who read it and protect us from every evil and hated thing. Indeed, Allaah has power over all things.
