Assalaamu alaikum.

Would you have the kalaam of the Shaykh Ibn Baaz rahimahullaah about the sun going around the earth and not the other way around.

The following hadeeth does indicate that though:
It is narrated on the authority of Abu Dharr that the Messenger of Allaah (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) one day said: Do you know where the sun goes? They replied: Allaah and His Prophet know best. He (the Prophet) observed: Verily it (the sun) glides till it reaches its resting place under the Throne. Then it falls prostrate and remains there until it is asked: Rise up and go to the place whence you came, and it goes back and continues emerging out from its rising place and then glides till it reaches its place of rest under the Throne and falls prostrate and remains in that state until it is asked: Rise up and return to the place whence you came, and it returns and emerges out from it rising place and the it glides (in such a normal way) that the people do not discern anything ( unusual in it) till it reaches its resting place under the Throne. Then it would be said to it: Rise up and emerge out from the place of your setting, and it will rise from the place of its setting. The Messenger of Allaah (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) said. Do you know when it would happen? It would happen at the time when faith will not benefit one who has not previously believed or has derived no good from the faith.
[Sahih Muslim: No. 297]

Abu Dharr reported: I entered the mosque and the Messenger of Allaah (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) was sitting there. When the sun disappeared (from the sight) he said: O Abu Dharr! Do you know where it goes? He (the narrator) said: Allaah and His Prophet know best. He (the Prophet) said. Verily it goes and begs permission, for prostration (to Allaah) and the permission is granted to it. Once it would be said: Return to the place whence you came, and then it would rise from its setting place. Then he, after the recitation of 'Abdullah recited it: And that is its appointed term.
[Sahih Muslim: No. 299]

Asalaamu 'alaykum wa rahmathullaahi wa barakaathuhu

The question and answer was translated by Aqeel Walker on the website of Masjid as-Salaf is-Saalih:

quote:

Is the Earth Round or Flat?

Introduction: The following letter reached the program (broadcast  program)  from Kenya, sent by our brother, the student, Ibraheem Muhammad Al-Awwal. The brother says, "I heard  the program Nurun 'alad-Darb (A Light upon the Path) and I benefited greatly from it. Therefore, I wanted to send these questions to you all because their topics are very perplexing to me. The first is: Is the earth round or flat?"

The Shaikh: According to the people knowledge (scholars of Islaam) the earth is round, for indeed Ibn Hazim and a group of other scholars mentioned that there is a consensus (unanimous agreement, Ijmaa') among the people of knowledge that it is round. This means that all of it is connected  together thus making the form of the entire planet like a ball. However, Allaah has spread out surface for us and He has placed firm mountains upon it and placed the animals and the seas upon it as a mercy for us. For this reason, Allaah said: "And (do they not look) at the Earth, how it was made FLAT (Sutihat)." [Al-Ghaashiyyah (88):20]

Therefore, it (the Earth) has been made flat  for us in regards to its surface, so that people can live on it and so that people can be comfortable upon it. The fact that it is round does not prevent that its surface has been made flat. This is because something that is round and very large, if it is made flat (its surface), then its surface will become very vast or broad (i.e. having a flat appearance). Yes."

Wa Alaykumus Salam wa Rahmanatullahi wa Barakatuhu

Our Brother Abu Khadeejah told us that Shaikh Ibn Baaz (rahimahullah) held the view that the Sun goes around the Earth.  And He (rahimahullah), used the hadith quoted by the brother Aslam above as evidence that the Sun revolves around the Earth and NOT the other way round.  He also said that the one who rejects this has commited kufr, because he has also rejected the hadith (quoted above), which is a proof that the sun orbits the Earth.

Shaikh Ibn Baaz also held the view that the Earth is static and does not move.  However he did not consider the one who rejected this as one who has commited kufr.  So if someone holds the opposite view, that the Earth does move, then it is not said that he has commited kufr.

This was mentioned by the brother Abu Khadeejah at the East London Friday  circle, (30th January 2003), during the Q&A session.
