Bismi'llaah wal hamdu lillaah wa salaatu wa salaam 'ala Rasulillaah wa ba'd:

السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته

Does anyone know of a reference(s) about any of the Salafus-Saaliheen being left handed?  Also, does anyone know if any of the current (or recently passed) Scholars are/were left handed?

بارك الله فيكم

wa 'alaykumus-salaamu wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh.

It is mentioned in al-Haakim's al-Mustadrak (#4540) that 'Umar ibn al-Khattaab was A'sar Yusr ( أعسر يسر ), which means ambidexterous (uses either hand with the same precision and strength), not left-handed.  It is said about someone who is left-handed: a'sar ( أعسر ) only.  This is explained by Shaykh Muqbil ibn Haadee in his footnotes to the Mustadrak (3/92).

It is also mentioned that he was ambidexterous in Tabaqaat Ibn Sa'd (2/173, Ihyaa' at-Turaath);

And in as-Sunan al-Kubraa of al-Bayhaqee (#19468, ar-Rushd);

And in the Musannaf of 'Abdur-Razzaaq (#8533, al-maktab al-islaamee);

And in at-Tabaraanee's al-Mu'jam al-Kabeer (1/65, Hamdee as-Salafee);

And in the Musand of Ahmad (3/435) with 'Alee bin Zayd ibn Jud'aan in the chain, a weak narrator;

And in Taareekh Dimashq (44/19-21) of Ibn 'Asaakir with a number of chains;

...

In one narration: "left-handed" ( أيسر ) - at-Tabaqaat (2/175).

And Allaah knows best.
