Salaamu Alaykum,

Inshallaah, I want to begin a discussion about fundraisers/lectures.  What if we limit them to 2 semi-annual fundraisers (winter/summer or fall/spring); WITH THE UNDERSTANDING THAT THESE EVENTS ARE FUNDRAISERS FOR EVERYBODY, AND WE ALL WILL DONATE MORE MONEY.  That way we can raise some serious money to help the Da'wah.  Here's an example:

Masha'Allaah, the Masjid Rahmah lecture was jayyid and I benefitted greatly from it.  There was easily more than 1,000 people there, but I'll limit it to 1,000 because it's an easy number to work with.  If 1,000 people who attended that lecture donated $200 each, we would have raised $200,000.  Inshallaah we can do a lot of good with that kind of money.  It's easier to save $200 every six months than you think, here's how:

Scenario #1
We easily spend on average $10 a day on lunch/dinner while at work.  If  we have the correct niyyah to Fast the recommended Fasts, Seeking Allaah's Face, each Monday, Thursday, and the other 3 days; we would average 11 days of fasting each month.  First and foremost we would get the reward for Fasting from Allaah, but we would also save $110 a month, which equals $660 every six months.  That would cover your expenses for the lecture: the $200 donation, the hotel room, and allow you to cop some books/tapes, and a thoub and overgarment for your wife etc.

If you can't fast, than carry your lunch to work 2 days each week.  That's $80 a month, which equals $480 every six months for the Da'wah.  Like I said before, eat a choke sandwich for lunch twice a week the Pleasure of Allaah, and donate that money!!

Scenario #2
Let's say you have pizza or sandwich night every Thursday when you get paid, because you don't feel like cooking and you want to treat your family.  That easily costs on average $15, which translates to $60 a month, or $360 every six months.  Again, your $200 donation and hotel expenses are covered,so sacrifice pizza sandwich night for Allaah's sake.
Even if you don't attend the conference, you can still send a check, and not get hurt in the process

IT'S EASIER THAN WE THINK.  There's all kinds of ways we can squeeze money out of our budgets and donate that money as Sadaqa in the cause of Allaah, and Inshallaah save ourselves from the fire, by helping the Da'wah!!!!!!  And, the beauty of it is, NO ONE IS TAKING A SERIOUS LOSS!!!!!  If we would have raised $200,000 at the Masjid Rahmah lecure, we could have given the Salafis in DC what they need to keep the building, and help the small communities that exist in places like Texas, Columbia SC, Richmond VA, Coatesville PA, Buffalo NY, Daytona FL, etc..and all the other places where Salafiyyah is taking roots.  These small communities are struggling, and don't have the luxary of having 1 day fund raising events that raise $11,000 like I've seen in the large communities.  Maybe we can help students struggling financially overseas, and donate money to students so they can translate more books for us to read.  The reminder benefits the believer:

57:16.."Has not the time come for the hearts of those who believe (in the Oneness of Allâh - Islâmic Monotheism) to be affected by Allâh's Reminder (this Qur'ân), and that which has been revealed of the truth..."

57:10..And what is the matter with you that you spend not in the Cause of Allâh? And to Allâh belongs the heritage of the heavens and the earth. Not equal among you are those who spent and fought before the conquering (of Makkah) (with those among you who did so later). Such are higher in degree than those who spent and fought afterwards. But to all, Allâh has promised the best (reward). And Allâh is All-Aware of what you do.

I heard our brothers Abu Uways and Taalib Abdullaah both say that Allaah is going to establish this blessed Da'wah, and spending in this cause now, while we're struggling is rewarded, just reflect on the above ayah.

This is just the fundraising portion of our lectures, having 2 semi-annual lectures opens up a myriad of ways to make the lectures even better than they already are because it gives us more time to plan, and exchange ideas.  I just wanted to open up a discussion amongst the Salafiyyoon.

Barakallaahu Feekum,

Daud

57:11..Who is he that will lend to Allâh a goodly loan, then (Allâh) will increase it manifold to his credit (in repaying), and he will have (besides) a good reward (i.e. Paradise).

as salaamu alaikum
in regards to semi annual fundraising, perhaps they could be planned to have them in the warm climates in the winter and the cool climates in the summer so that families can plan vacation with the children at that time as well. That is what I and my family have done over the past years in gauging our attendance at the gatherings, especially considering that some may entail flights or long drives.
There may also be a consideration of the various salafi communities across the country to make it easy to attend at least one of the two gatherings.
East Coast - Mid West - West Coast?  New Jersey - Texas - California??
May Allah straighten our affairs.

Salaamu Alaykum,

Na'am, Abu Hafs.  That is a good point, we can move them around.  Continue to reflect upon the fundraising so we can come up with some more ideas.  Where's everyone at on this!?!
