الحمد لله والصلاة والسلام على رسول الله
Questioner: There has been a recent increase in speech about a man in al-Madeenat il-Munawwarah who is called Faalih al-Harbee, so what do you know about him?
Shaykh Saalih: I know good about him, and the praise is to Allaah. From where did this appear? The ones who speak about him and attack him, what is their ?umdah (their support)? Let them bring us something from his speech in which he has erred or slandered [someone or something]. As for empty, nonsense speech about people and attacking people without verification, Allaah, the Mighty and Most High, said:

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِن جَاءكُمْ فَاسِقٌ بِنَبَأٍ فَتَبَيَّنُوا أَن تُصِيبُوا قَوْمًا بِجَهَالَةٍ فَتُصْبِحُوا عَلَى مَا فَعَلْتُمْ نَادِمِينَ O you who believe! If a rebellious evil person comes to you with a news, verify it, lest you harm people in ignorance, and afterwards you become regretful to what you have done. |

So verification is necessary in these affairs.
Comments: The Shaykh has clearly applied the Noble Aayah to those Qutubiyyoon who speak ill of Shaykh Faalih and carry empty tales regarding him (e.g. that he is spy, paid worker, etc.). This implies that he holds such people to be ?faasiqoon? whose speech should be rejected until verified. Furthermore, the Shaykh?s speech indicates the good reputation that Shaykh Faalih possesses amongst the People of Knowledge throughout the land - not just Madeenah (as Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan himself is from Najd). And Allaah knows best.
