as-salaam `alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuhu,

I have a question about buying Islaamic books in the english language. We in Holland usually don't work with creditcards so if we want to order something from www.salafibookstore.com, then we can't, because they only ask for a creditcard. I want to know how we can solve this problem or maybe someone has a suggestion for me how to order the books without the usage of a creditcard. Djazaakumullaahu ghayran.

was-salaam `alaykum,

Abu Yusuf `Iesaa al-Limburgi

p.s. excuse me for my bad english so if I might wrote something not quite properly, then may Allaah forgive me for that...

wa'alaykum salam wa rahmatullah wa barakatuh

akhee, what u can do is send your order to salafibookstore.com by email and they will send you how much ur order is all together and u can buy it by postal order i.e u will send your money through post. salafibookstore will tell you where to you ur postal order. Or u can send ur order by fax also and contact them by phone to ask total price and again send ur money by post.

That is how i ordered.
wa'alaykum salam

Please read below this was taken from SalafiBookstore.com
Note: We do not accept payment by Credit Cards. However, you may pay by a debit card or cheque. If you have a debit card or can pay be cheque, ring up the bookstore with your order. Your order will be dispatched, upon receipt of the cheque, or payment by debit card. We discourage all Muslims from taking and using a Credit Card as it involves use of money which is not in existence, with the onus of paying back interest, if one delays payment of what is due back to the credit agency. If you are not sure which type of card you hold you can contact your bank or card issuer.

The ruling regarding using a credit card

Question: There are banks which provide their customers with a card called "Visa". This (card) then permits them (customers) to withdraw cash from the bank, even if they do not have sufficient funds in their account at the time. After a (specified) period of time, the customer is then required to pay back the money which he withdrew, and if he fails to do so before this period of time expires, the bank will then charge an extra fee in addition to the original amount withdrawn. This is in addition to the customer paying a (fixed) yearly fee to the bank for the use of this card. I request you to explain the ruling regarding the use of this card, and are there any specific conditions which need to exist if the use of the card was not permissible? (And) may Allaah reward you with good?

Response: This transaction is impermissible (haraam); this is because it consists of adhering (agreeing) to pay interest if the repayment is not done within the specified time (period), and this adherence (agreement) is not permissible. Even if a person believed or felt assured that he would make the repayment before the expiry of the time period, it is possible that circumstances could change rendering him unable to make the repayment within the specified time period. And since this is a matter of the future, a person (obviously) does not know what will happen in the future, so this transaction in this case is impermissible.

Buying goods using debit cards

Question: I hope your excellencies can advise us about using Saudi Net (debit) cards when buying items from stores in the following manner: When the total sale price is agreed upon, for example SR150 (riyals), the card is presented to the salesman who passes ("swipes") it through a machine he has in the store. The (total) value of the transaction is then debited instantly by transferring the amount from the buyer's account to the vendor's account in the same instant, i.e. before the buyer leaves the store.

Response: If the matter is as you describe, then there is no harm in using the mentioned card, so long as the buyer has sufficient funds in his account to cover the required amount (of the sale).

And with Allaah lies all success and may Allaah send prayers and salutations upon our Prophet (sal-Allaahu `alayhe wa sallam) and his family and his companions.
