Anwar al-Awlaki's Fictitious Attachment to Salafism

This is a reply to the comments of Jarrett Brachman, author of Global Jihadism: Theory and Practice and former director of research at West Point's Combating Terrorism Center.  Whilst being interviewed on National Public Radio's All Things Considered, he claimed that Anwar al-Awlaki "the hard line understanding of Islam known as Salafism."  Though he affirmed al-Awlaki's Jihadist leanings, he erred and mentioned Salafiyyah in the same breath as al-Awlaki's devious ideology.  So it was imperative to make plain the vast difference between Salafiyyah and Anwar al-Awlaki's extremist views.  Indeed, Salafiyyah is in a valley and al-Awlaki is in another valley!

Excerpt:
quote:
It should be noted here that it was the Salafis, whom Brachman oppressively connects to al-Awlaki, who were challenging al-Awlaki's alleged scholarship in Islaam and his creed. In fact, a cursory check of Salafi internet sites and forums will show warnings to the Muslims against al-Awlaki's methodology and warnings against al-Awlaki by name, so how could the Director of Research for the Combating Terrorism Center at West Point make such a gaffe? We have no choice but to conclude that it was either a gross error or a deliberate twisting of the facts to demonize the thousands of peaceful Salafi Muslims residing in the United States. And Allaah knows best.

Subhanak Allaahuma wa bihamdika ash-hadu anlaa illaaha illa anta astaghfiruka wa atubu ilayk

If I said anything correct, then it is from Allaah (subhanahu wa taa'ala), and if I erred, then that is from me and shaytan.

quote:
There are two types of journalists (and writers). One (type) that represents the actual meaning of the word itself which is to accurately represent the facts and to expend ones efforts to reach that goal. And the second (type) is your average run-of-the-mill, blind-follower, second-hand, third-hand, fourth-hand (and so on) source journalist (or writer). These unfortunately are present in abundance.
