Bismillah wa salaat wa salaamu ala arasoolillah wa ala alihe wa ashabihe ajma'een, wa ba'ad:

Where can I get information in somewhat of a guide format regarding the fasting of the one who travels?  For instance, if a traveling person knows that he/she will be traveling the whole month of Ramadaan what is the advice of the 'Ulama for this person?  How often should he fast and are there any special requirements or conditions.

Says Shaykh al 'Outheymin rahimahou llah:
"Permission to abstain from fasting is granted to the travelers who do not travel for the purpose of breaking their fast. Even though it is permissible to break fast durning travel, it is praiseworthy to fast while traveling if no hardship imposed. In any case, travelers should make up the days they missed fasting in Ramadhaan once Ramadhaan is over and they are back home."

Assalaamualaikum,

The book "Fasting, the great act of worship" on the above mentioned site is translated by Abdullah al-Farisi.  Here is a link regarding him:

http://www.salafitalk.net/st/viewmessages.cfm?Forum=14&Topic=2082 (see post titled "Salaf not Khalaf Is a Platform for Ahl ul-Ahwaa Who Spread Tribulations" by brother naasir.ud-deen).

There are some suspicious publications in the footnotes of the book which some of the more knowledgeble brothers might recognize.

Wallaahu Musta'aan.

بسم الله الرحمان الرحيم

Abu Sa'eed al-Khudari said that we used to be on war journeys with the messenger of Allaah in Ramadaan and there were from amongst us those who fasted and those who never, the one fasting would not have anything against the one not fasting and the none fasting one would not hold anything against the one fasting. They would hold that whoever found strength then he would fast and that was good, and the one who was weak would break his fast and that was good.
