As sallam ualaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatahu

(Please note: there will be a number of spelling mistakes in this discourse)

I was in Marrakesh, Morocco, in about December/January time. There was no such institute called Dar-ul-Hadeeth to the best of my recollection in that city at that time. Marrakesh is full of stinking hizbees who are fiercly alligned to Muhammad Al-Maghrawee's hizb. Maghrawee has quite a few Dar-ul-Quran organisations there and lives there himself. It is a very bad atmosphere for a salafi to live in, with the ulema constatntly being attacked by these barbaric hizbees.

Its possible, ya akhee, that you may have got mixed up with the dar-ul-hadeeth in Taan-Taan which is/was run by the moroccon salafi brothers. Taan-Taan is in the south of Morocco, about 10 hours bus drive from Marakesh. The last thing that I heard was that it was not open anymore for westernes to go because of some kind of governmental problems. Allah knows best.
There is also a British brother who sometimes resides in Marrakesh by the name of Abu Sufyaan who has built a school about 45 minutes outside of Marakesh. As far as I remember, this school is not named dar-ul hadeeth and it was not for western adults. Rather, it would just be for children when it gets started (I am not sure if it has by now or not).

While on the subject of Marakesh and schools, i think it would be pertinent if i were to outline a few pointers on those which exist there just so that any unsuspecting brothers and sisters don't end up there!!

As mentioned above, the main place in Marakesh is Maghrawee's Dar-ul-Quran. Suffice to say, the place should be avoided like the plague! I have noticed during the time that i spent in Marakesh, that some of the miskeen westerners from Canada, Britain, Guyana, France and America would keep on insisting on going there. Their excuse was that Maghrawee himself was not teaching there and that some of the guys who taught there were independent of Magrawee. Dont believe it!!! They say that the likes ofsheikh Abdul-Kabeer (one of the teachers there) and a brother called Hammad are away from Magrawee and just want to do the dawah!!! Dont believe this, as although it is true that they may have fiqh differences with magrawee, they are essentially still with him. If these people were away from him, then surely they would have left him like some of his other students who later went and set up dar-ul-hadeeth in taan-taan.
There is also a guy called sheikh zahraat, a blind old man who is very much loved by the magraween and the masakeen of the west over there. This man is also still with magrawee and all he ever seems to do is speak in the reprehensible darija and crack jokes to the hizbees around him!!!

Nthing happens in Dar-ul-Quran without the say so of Magrawee. All of these above people and other grizzy characters are the leiutanants of Muhammad Al-Magrawee in their bid to push out the hizbeeyah and enmity towards Ahlu-Sunnah.

The other main group who claims salafeeyah in Marakesh, is JameeyaIbn Abdul-Barr. This group is affliiated with someone called sheikh Abu Ubaidah. Sheikh Abu Ubaidah was the man whom sheikh Naasir stayed with while he was theer in Marakesh and he also spoke well of him. However, this is not neccasily a tazkeeyah as he's condition is unknown. I met him briefly in his house but was unable to ask him the questions i wanted (about the manhaj) because he was ill. Abu Ubaida was the original founder of Dar-ul-Quran before magrawee muscled his way in and pushed him out. Abu Ubaidah's sons had some very interseting statements about magrawee which they say they had gathered from the likes of sheikh Naasir, Sheikh Hammad Al-Ansari and Sheikh Taqi-ud-deen Al-Hilaalee. However, this jameeyah affiliated to Abu Ubaidah is definetly not salafi. They are very Ikhwaani oriented and you can see them with trousers and being musbil in their izaar, their leader wears and defends wearing the tie etc. Genearlly, even from the sons of Abu Ubaidah, I sensed a lot of tasaahul, lack of knowledge and almost an Ikhwaani feel to the whole thing. Like the previous group, this one is definyly a no-no as well, even though it may appear better than magrawees neo-Khwaarij.

Recently, another school has opened up in Mrakesh to teach Arabic to westerners. This school is run by an American called Muhammad Jaabir. Muhammad Jabir (as he says) is the son of the man who buried Malcolm X and led his janaza. He was alos the imaam of the infamous Masjid ud Diraar in Abu Muflisah's community at one time. I believe this man is known to some our brothers on this forum like Dawud Adeeb.
One night before I left, I went to this school just to speak to Muhammad Jaabir to find out more about this new school. Originally I had percieved Muhammad Jabir as being a regular guy with no particular orientation (I had met him a number of times before); boy was i in for a surprize!!!!!
Muhammad Jabir is a very shrewed and cunning character who loves to talk and play politics. He absolutely hates saudi and by extension that includes the ulema, but he would not admit it and would not answer my questions when i asked him what he then thought of the likes of bin baz (after he proceeded to attack the saudi government). During the conversation he would make cryptical remarks talking about those who justify the illegal regimes, but when asked if he was talking about the scholars, he would go silent and say 'no comment'!!
He cannot stand the salafis in America and salafeeyah in totallity as he tried to cast doubts upon calling oneself salafi and tried to make some ridiculous interpretation of the hadeeth of Fatima: Ni'ma as-salafu ana laki'. He is a defender of the misguided and the misguider, Sayid Qutb. In fact, he was even trying to justify Qutb's abominations against Moosa alahi asasallam by saying that maybe thats not what qutb meant!!! Allahu mustaaan! He is immensly paranoid about the situation in America and it seems that all he wants to do is talk about the nation, but even then in a very subdued way as he literally fears that they will get him!!!. As I mentioned above he is hung up on politics and once he told me that he was leadin a press confrence to get Jamil-ulAmeen released. In fact, he stated that night, that he was known as the politician in his home town in America. It should be interesting to note that the government keeps a close eye on this guy and originally his school was not allowed because it was alleged that he had Bib Laden tapes when he entered the country!!! He was then asked to leave the country, but later on they allowed him to stay. This caused a lot of havoc for some of the salafi westerners there, and the police visited all of us including me. Muhammed Jaabir is bent on conspiracy theories which unfortunatly involve the saudi scholars in his demented mind. He comes accross with exemplerey manners, but the man is a complete ignoramus of the dawah and is a devouring wolf in sheeps clothing.
Be warned brothers and sisters, do not go to Marakesh and think that you will learn any Arabic or deen. Its simply not like that.

This is just something of what Allah has made easy for me to recollect now. I hope it is of benefit.
And now im gonnna get some sleep!!!

Hayakummallah jamee'an

Abu Yusuf, Sagheer
