Q: What are the Conditions (ash-Shuroot) that are necessary to be fulfilled concerning the caller to Allaah ?Azza wa-Jall (the Mighty and Majestic)?

A: All praise is for Allaah, and may Extolment (as-Salaah) and Peace and Security (as-Salaam) be upon the Messenger of Allaah and also upon his true followers and Companions. And to follow on:

Calling (ad-Da?wah) to Allaah is the Way of the Prophets (al-?Anbiyaa?), the Methodology of the devout and pious (al-?atqiyaa?), and the Path of the Messengers (ar-Rusul), may the Extolments (Salawaat) of Allaah and His Peace and Security (Salaam) be upon them. He Ta?aalaa (the Most High and Exalted) said to His Prophet and the most excellent (?afdal) of His Messengers (the meaning of which is):

{Say (O Muhammad: This is my Way, I call to Allaah upon sure knowledge and insight (baseerah); I and whosoever follows me (must also call to Allaah upon sure knowledge and insight)?}[1]

So whoever follows this Methodology then he is of the successors of the Messengers (ar-Rusul), may the Extolments of Allaah and His Peace and Security be upon them, and it is necessary and required for him that he be characterized with clarity and clearness inwardly and purity and clearness outwardly, and the most important of that are the following characteristics (as-sifaat at-taaliyah):

The First Characteristic (As-Sifat al-?Oolaa): Sincerity of action and deed (?Ikhlaas al-?amal) for Allaah Ta?aalaa, He Ta?aalaa said (what means): [Say (O Muhammad): "Allaah alone I worship, making pure and sincere my Religion and Worship for Him." So worship whatever you wish besides Him.][2]

And He Ta?aalaa said (the meaning of which is): [?So whoever hopes for the Meeting with his Lord (Rabb) then let him do righteous deeds and associate none in the worship of his Lord (Rabb).][3]

And the Prophet (an-Nabiyy) Sallallaahu ?alayhi wa-Sallam said (what means): "Verily the rewards of deeds are by the intentions (an-niyyaat), and indeed every person will get the reward in accordance to what he has intended".

The Second Characteristic (As-Sifat ath-Thaaniyah): Knowledge (al-?Ilm) of what he is calling to, He Ta?aalaa said (what means): [Say (O Muhammad: This is my Way, I call to Allaah upon sure knowledge and insight (baseerah); I and whosoever follows me (must also call to Allaah upon sure knowledge and insight)?][4]

The Third Characteristic (As-Sifat ath-Thaalithah): Wisdom (al-Hikmah) in Calling (ad-Da?wah) to Allaah which is having strength in overcoming and convincing (with evidence) (quwwat al-hujjah), skill in speech (labaaqat al-qawl), and discretion (husn at-tasarruf).

The Fourth Characteristic (As-Sifat ar-Raabi?ah): Gentleness (ar-Rifq) and tender treatment and mildness (al-Leen) in address and speech, even if the one addressed and spoken to was a tyrant and arrogant one. He Ta?aalaa said to Moosaa and Haaroon ?alayhimas-Salaam (what means): ["Go, both of you, to Fir?awn (Pharoah), verily he has transgressed. And speak to him with mild speech so perhaps he accepts admonition or fears (Allaah)."][5].

And He said to His Prophet Muhammad, Sallallaahu ?alayhi wa-Sallam, (what means): [So by the Mercy of Allaah you were gentle with them. And had you been coarse and rough hearted they would have broken away from you from about you?][6].

And the Prophet, Sallallaahu ?alayhi wa-Sallam, said (the meaning of which is): "Gentleness (ar-Rifq) does not come in something except that it beautifies and adorns it, and harshness and roughness does not come in something except that it disfigures it".

The Fifth Characteristic (As-Sifat al-Khaamisah): That he is one who acts by what he says. He Ta?aalaa said in censure and criticism of the one whose action opposes and contradicts his saying (what means): [O you who believe! Why do you say that which you do not do? Most hateful it is with Allaah that you say that which you do not do.][7].

And He Ta?aalaa said: [Do you order the people with piety and righteousness (al-Birr) and you forget yourselves (to practice it), while you recite the Book (the Tawraah)! Have you then no sense and intellect!?][8].

And He related concerning Shu?ayb, ?alayhis-Salaam, that he said to his people (the meaning of which is): ["?And I do not wish that I do contrary to you by doing that which forbid you from. Indeed I do not want except rectification as much I am able. And my guidance and success cannot come except through Allaah, in Him I place my trust and to Him I turn in repentance."][9].

The Sixth Characteristic (As-Sifat as-Saadisah): That he is characterized with humility and modesty (at-tawaadu?) for that this is more appropriate that he is accepted of and his speech is listened to. He Ta?aalaa said (what means): [So by the Mercy of Allaah you were gentle with them. And had you been coarse and rough hearted they would have broken away from you from about you?][10].

The Seventh Characteristic (As-Sifat as-Saabi?ah): Patience (as-Sabr) upon what meets the caller of harm. He Ta?aalaa said: [By the Time (al-?Asr). Verily man is in loss. Except those who have true faith and believe and do righteous deeds, and also enjoin and recommend one another with the Truth, and enjoin and recommend one another with patience.][11].

And He Ta?aalaa said: [O you who believe! Have endurance and be more patient, and guard your territory by stationing troops, and fear Allaah in order that you may be successful.][12].
