Salamu alaikum wa rahmatullah;
I have heard that Imam Ahmad [rahimahullah] and others have said that Salat behind certain types of innovators require the individual [who is firm in his Aqeedah wa manhaj of Ahlu Sunnah wal Jama'at] who prays behind them to repeat his Salat. Does anyone know what evidences/proofs this position was established on?

in general, there are innovators whose innovation has taken them outside the religion, and innovators who are still muslims. when a person prays behind the first group and he knows about his condition, then his prayer would clearly have to be repeated, since he prayed behind a disbeliever. examples of these are like the qadaree (one who denies qadar) or the one who says the qur'aan is created. they used to make takfeer of such innovators, and thus prayer is not to be offered behind them. and if you found a statement from the salaf saying that prayer behind an innovator is to be repeated, then this would apply to this example clearly. and Allaah knows best.

Jazakallahu khair brother Moosaa, it is clear why if someone who prayed behind someone deemed outside the fold of Islam would have to offer prayer over, THEY HAVE NOT PRAYED! It is best to frequent the correct masajid to avoid this misfortune.
