Assalaamu Alaykum..

I remember reading a fatawa about having haircuts, and it contained a narration about cutting the hair that went along the lines of "shave it all or leave it", please could someone provide me with the full narration and reference.

BaarakAllaahu feekum!!

salaam alaykum

check out fiqh us sunnah:

Cutting one's hair off is permissible, and so is letting it grow if one honors it.
quote:
Ibn 'Umar narrated that the Prophet, upon whom be peace, said, "Shave it all or leave it all." (Related by Ahmad, Muslim, Abu Dawud and an-Nasa'i).
To shave part of it and leave part of it is greatly disliked.

quote:
Nafa' related from Ibn 'Umar that the Messenger of Allah prohibited qiza'. Nafa' asked, "What is qiza' ?" He said, "It is to shave off part of the hair of a youth and to leave part." (AlBukhari and Muslim.) Volume 1, Page 23

im not sure who "nafa'" is. any suggestion? possibly a spelling mistake the below hadith is from naafi student of ibn umar radiyallahu anhu

something else i just thought sounded interesting

quote:
Sahih Al bukhaari Volume 7, Book 72, Number 796:

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Umar : I heard 'Umar saying, "Whoever braids his hair should shave it (on finishing lhram). You'd better not do, something like Talbid." Ibn Umar used to say: "I saw Allah's Apostle with his hair stuck together with gum."

quote:
Volume 7, Book 72, Number 803:

Narrated Ubaidullah bin Hafs: that 'Umar bin Nafi' told him that Nafi', Maula 'Abdullah had heard 'Umar saying, "I heard Allah's Apostle forbidding Al-Qaza'." 'Ubaidullah added: I said, "What is Al-Qaza'?" 'Ubaidullah pointed (towards his head) to show us and added, "Nafi' said, 'It is when a boy has his head shaved leaving a tuft of hair here and a tuft of hair there." Ubaidullah pointed towards his forehead and the sides of his head. 'Ubaidullah was asked, "Does this apply to both girls and boys?" He said, "I don't know, but Nafi' said, 'The boy.'" 'Ubaidullah added, "I asked Nafi' again, and he said, 'As for leaving hair on the temples and the back part of the boy's head, there is no harm, but Al-Qaza' is to leave a tuft of hair on his forehead unshaved while there is no hair on the rest of his head, and also to leave hair on either side of his head.'"

quote:
Volume 7, Book 72, Number 804:

Narrated (Abdullah) bin 'Umar : Allah's Apostle forbade Al-Qaza' (leaving a tuft of hair here and there after shaving one's head.)

===========================================================

Sahih Muslim

quote:
Book 24, Number 5289:

Ibn Umar reported that Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) forbade Qaza. I said to Nafi: What is Qaza'? He said: This means having a part of a boy's head shaved and leaving a part unshaven.

quote:
Book 24, Number 5290:

This hadith has been reported on the authority of 'Ubaidullah with the same chain of transmitters. and the exposition of Qaza' is the same as that of Abu Usama.

quote:
Book 24, Number 5291:

This hadith has been narrated on the authority of 'Umar b. Nafi' with the same chain of transmitters and Muhammad b. Muthanna as well as 'Umar b. Nafi have given the same exposition (of the word Qaza') in their narration.

quote:
Book 24, Number 5292:

This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Ibn 'Umar through another chain of transmitters.
