Assallaamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullaah, could anyone please clarify the correct opinion for me of raising the hands in the Qunoot of Witr. I have read in "The Prophet's Prayer Described" by the Allamah Shaikh Naasir-ud-Deen Al-Albani may Allah shower him with Mercy Ameen, has commented the following on page 83 of the book under heading 'Qunoot in the Five Prayers because of a Calamity "When he (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) wanted to suppilcate against someone, or supplicate for someone, he would perform qunoot in the last rak'ah after rukoo'; after having said'Allah listens to the one who praises him' " He would supplicate loudly, RAISE HIS HANDS, and those behind him would say aameen" Then the Shaikh has written Qunoot in Witr Prayer He (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) used to perform qunoot in the odd rak'ah of the Witr prayer, sometimes, and he would perform it before rukoo," There is no mention of raising the hands! If someone could explain the salafs understanding of this issue. JazakAllah Khair Walaikum assallaam wa rahmatullaah, Abu Dawood Humza As Salafee

wa alaikum assalaamu wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh. Q: Is raising the hands during the du'aa of qunoot from the Sunnah? Please mention the daleel. A: Yes, it is from the Sunnah for a person to raise his hands during the du'aa of qunoot, because that has been reported from the Prophet - sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam - in his qunoot when he used to make qunoot in the obligatory prayers during calamities. It has also been authentically narrated that Ameer Al-Momineen, Umar Ibn Al-Khattaab - radhiyallaahu anhu - raised his hands in the qunoot of witr, and he is one of the Rightly Guided Khulafaa' who we have been commanded to follow. So raising the hands during the qunoot of witr is Sunnah, regardless of whether one is an Imaam, a follower, or by himself. So whenever you make qunoot, raise your hands.
