Al-Ameen Abdul-Lateef is the Imaam of Project Allaahu Akbar (that's the name of the garage the pray in) in Wyandanch, Long Island, NY.
He makes takfeer of the rulers and belittles the 'ulamaa. He is also extremely jaahil. In regards to taking from him, I never knew he even had anything to offer.
They have no desire to affiliate with Ahl ul-'Ilm so I would advise you not to align with them.

As for the Dar ul-Islaam movement, then it started back in the 60's or so in Brooklyn. From what little I know, they had made some efforts to adhere to the sunnah, however they didn't have many authentic resources to rely upon. Then a soofee shaykh (snake) named Jeelaanee from Pakistan, came and divided the movement. Some went with al-Ameen Abdul-Lateef and the likes, others became muqallids of Jeelaanee, the Qaadaree Soofee. The latter are called the Muslims of the Americas, also known as the Fuqaraa Jamaa'ah.

With regard to Al ameen Abdul Latif, he also has a masjid in brooklyn. the name of this masjid i believe is Masjid Al Imadudeen. It was understood at the opening of this masjid that al ameen's son is the Imam. This is unknown at the present. Anyway, Al ameen teaches class there. i came across a young brother who's is not sturdy on the da'watul salafiyyah (may Allah guide him, ameen) who said he was attending a class at the masjid. He mentioned that Al ameen teaches a class that focuses on establishing an Islamic state. i asked him from what book is he teaching from. the brother didn't know but he would let me know. a few days later the brother informed me that the book that Al ameen is teaching from is "Islamic Priorites in the West" by Yusuf Al-Qaradawi. He was informed of the status of this man and he will be receiving the 4 part series from Salafipublications on Al-Qadarawi. The articles on Salafipublications are located under Tasfiyah "Callers & Individuals". Just to make a correction with regard to the name of the Masjid in Brooklyn that Al ameen teaches in. It is called Masjid Iqamatudeen and Al ameen is reported to be the Imam as his son who was originally slated to be the Imam, is working as a chaplin in the prisons, In sha Allah.
