As salaamu alaikum wa rahmatullah,

This was another question from a member in my e-group that maybe someone can answer here insha Allah with daleel on the proof for it or against it insha Allah, barakallahu feekum.

Does anyone know the ruling on taking pictures or videotaping the inside of the masjid such as the musallah, wudu stations etc. ofcourse without people in these pictures? This would be for education purposes only insha Allah?

Jazakallahu khairan.

wa 'alaykumus-salaamu wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh.

The texts about tasweer (picture-making) and its prohibition and the punishments promised for picture-makers are all referring to thawaat arwaah ( ذوات أرواح ), or: things that have souls.  Thus, there is no prohibition of drawing, photographing, or videotaping things with no souls, like trees, mountains, buildings, etc.  However, before taking pictures of a building, it would be advisable to make sure that is OK with the owners or caretakers of that building.

May Allaah grant you success.
