Support for Arabic occurs at the operating system level. Windows XP (and perhaps 2000) allows the use of Arabic input by way of the "Regional and Language Options" control panel.

While in this control panel, go to the "Advanced" tab and check off "10004 (MAC - Arabic)" in the "Code page conversion tables" section. Then  go to the "Languages" tab, click "Details," and add any Arabic input language (e.g. Saudi Arabia, Egypt, etc.). Then use the "Language Bar" to switch between your English and Arabic input languages. Now you can type in Arabic in your web browser, word processor, etc.

As for making Arabic text viewable in Paltalk, then go to the "Advanced" tab again and choose any Arabic language from the drop-down list shown in the "Language for non-Unicode programs" section. That should solve the problem.

Note that several of the aforementioned steps may require rebooting.

  As Salaamu 'Alaikum ...

Aboo 'Abdil-'Azeez:

When you say "check off", do you mean "make sure it is checked" or "uncheck it"?  Baaraka Allaahu feekum.

There should be a check mark inside of the box next to the "10004 (MAC - Arabic)." Sorry for the confusing language.

  Assalaamu'alaykum

Could some one in the know advise regarding how to view Arabic script on paltalk for windows 98.  I've tried the above route and it doesn't appear to be applicable.  BaarakAllaahu feekum.

  wa 'alaykum salaam

I use Windows 98 at home and can't read Arabic script on Paltalk. I think only a special "Arabic enabled" version of Win98 can do that.

As for reading Arabic script on Salafitalk, etc., I recommend the "Mozilla" browser. Probably any recent version of MS Internet Explorer does this as well but Mozilla has some extra features that should appeal to Muslim users. The brother muhammad.rather suggested it on this forum a while ago. As he said, it has the facility to selectively block images - e.g. you can block (haraam) images on a news site you use without blocking other halaal images on Islamic sites (whereas with IE it's all or nothing). It also has a pop-up blocker and "tabbed browsing". You can choose the stand alone "Firebird" browser (browser only), or the "Mozilla" suite (browser with  mail client). (There is also a "Thunderbird" stand alone mail client which can be used to complement the Firebird browser.)
